Lathrop GPM, one of the nation's leading law firms, has an immediate opening for a Business Development Manager. Lathrop GPM is a full-service, Am Law 200 law firm with offices in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Jefferson City, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Overland Park, St. Cloud, St. Louis, and Washington, D.C. Our clients are at the heart of everything we do. Reporting to the Chief Client Officer, the Business Development Manager ("BDM") role is essential to Lathrop GPM' s focus on strategic growth.  The BDM plays a critical role in the evolution of the firm's business development and marketing strategy. This role will work proactively with the assigned practice groups to develop and support initiatives that help drive new business from existing clients and prospects and works with other BDMs to adopt best practices across all supported groups.  
The BDM role serves as a key player on the Client and Practice Innovation Leadership Team. This role works hand-in-hand with the Chief Client Officer, Directors of Practice Management ("DPM"), the Director of Marketing Operations, and the Director of Pricing in developing and implementing business development strategies for the assigned groups.

Primary Responsibilities:
•Partner with the Director of Practice Management and Practice Group Leader to develop annual business plans for assigned groups that support the firm's strategic plan.  
•Annually and as needed, help guide attorneys in developing their Individual Performance Plan to support the practice group's goals.
•Oversee all pitches, proposals, and RFPs for the assigned group to ensure that we are putting forward our best experience and pricing proposal.  This will regularly involve drafting content from scratch and partnering with the firm's pricing team.
•Responsible for having a robust understanding of supported practice groups, including the products and services they offer to the firm's clients, to effectively relay this experience and identify potential synergies where existing experience can be applied to other clients and prospects.
•Responsible for ensuring that all marketing and business development content adequately reflects the group's experience and is as effective as possible in guiding targets to hire the firm.  
•Remain up-to-date on legal and industry trends to proactively identify ways for the groups to differentiate themselves within the marketplace and identify new, niche, areas for the firm to explore.  In addition, through regular communication with the firm's other business development professionals, arrange for and support appropriate cross-marketing efforts.
•Ensure that all attorney-developed content is leveraged across all distribution channels.  In many cases, this will involve working with the firm's Graphic Design, Communications and Public Relations resources to identify ways to deliver the same information to different audiences.
•With CCO, develop and support business development training programs across all levels of the firm. In addition, provide, as necessary, one-on-one coaching to attorneys to help them in their business development initiatives.
•Ownership of all industry/practice group relationships in which the supported groups and attorneys are involved. Examples include, but are not limited to: IFA, ACC, ACG, BIO etc.  BDMs will be responsible for identifying and leveraging all benefits and judging ROI from the business development perspective and reporting on budgeting requirements.
•Participate in awards and nominations opportunities by leading Chambers USA, Global and High Net Worth submissions for aligned practice areas, and advising comms / PR people on candidates for nomination.
•Responsible for continued evaluation of existing marketing & business development plans and tracking ROI on all initiatives.
•Act as a general advisor in connection with all marketing and business development activities including, identifying business development opportunities with new and existing clients
•With the Chief Client Officer, support the firm's client interview process by supplying historical, internal, and external data on clients targeted for interviews.  In addition, be in a position to suggest clients that should be interviewed.
•Collaborate with the Events Team to identify and plan client seminars, attorney speaking engagements, and other marketing events and sponsorships.  
•Ultimate ownership for the mailing lists leveraged by supported groups to ensure they are consistently maintained and accurately reflect the clients and prospects. In conjunction with this, responsible for acting as an ambassador to the supported practices on the strategic importance of CRM to the firm's business development initiatives.
Requirements
•Intellectual Curiosity:  These roles are expected to have an intellectual curiosity about how the lawyers in their groups support the firm's clients;  
•Highly Motivated, Effective, and Creative Partner: The ideal candidate knows the ins and outs of law firm business development and has ideas on how to shake things up from traditional approaches and help our firm and attorneys stand out from the pack and grow the business to the next level; 
•Management:  7-10 years marketing or business development experience, with significant and demonstrable project management experience; 
•Client service: Ability to manage multiple projects at once and respond quickly to inquiries to serve as an ambassador of superior internal client service.  This role requires hands-on abilities. The ability to motivate attorneys while prioritizing workload is essential;
•Budgetary: Proven experience in managing both project-based and contributing to longer-term marketing and communications budgets;
•Communication skills: The candidate must be able to communicate crisply and clearly in both verbal and written formats, and, in conjunction with the Communications Manager, leverage established tone and message for all externally-facing materials; and
•Education and prior service: A Bachelor's Degree is required, preferably in marketing, communications or a related field. Experience in a law firm and/or professional services industry is preferred but not required.
