Northwest Youth Corps - AmeriCorps 520 Hour Bureau of Land Management - Burns District Hines, Oregon Position Title: Rangeland Management Specialist (Cooperating Upland Monitoring) Grant Program: OYSI 22EDBDC0020010 / EAP 21EDBDC0010041
Position Summary: Burns District Bureau of Land Management is recruiting one 13-week 520-hour AmeriCorps member beginning June 1st, 2024 through August 30th, 2024 . This position will support the Burns District's natural resource programs, specifically the range, weed, botany, and wildlife programs, though the member may assist in other programs as well. The work will be in support of various activities taking place in the district, including range, restoration, wildlife, and fuels projects. The member must complete an end of service project presentation (5-10 minutes in length) highlighting the key takeaways of their time with the agency.
Duties and Responsibilities: Position responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Step transects, Line-point intersect transects, Photo monitoring, Observed apparent trend and Soil surface factor determination (20%) Utilization monitoring and Cole browse (10-15%) Use supervision and Livestock counts (20%) Wildlife habitat monitoring (5%) Weed monitoring/documentation (5%) WSA monitoring (5%) Project inspection and Project repair (5-10%) Data entry (20%) Required Qualifications: Applicants must be pursuing either an associates, bachelors, or graduate degree in a natural resource field, and will have some experience with plant identification, either in the field or through coursework. This is a demanding outdoor job that requires substantial physical fitness and mobility, participation in the field, and a tolerance for extreme weather and demanding conditions.
Members must be US Citizen or Permanent Resident, as required by U.S. government contracts. 18+ years of age upon program start date Ability and willingness to undergo a federal criminal background check is required. Must have a valid driver's license, clean driving record with ability to provide required documentation Desired Qualifications: Knowledge of sagebrush steppe vegetation Ability and willingness to learn new skills while being able to be self-motivated and have flexibility. Deep interest in ecology and rangeland management, including working with and interacting with public land users including ranchers. Duty Location: Duties are performed within Harney County Oregon; the office location is in Hines Oregon.
Terms of Employment : One AmeriCorps member will complete a term of service (length dependent on commitment of hours), for 13 weeks between May through October. The member must complete a minimum of 520 service hours by the end of their term. The member will receive a 30-minute lunch each day and this lunch break does not count towards AmeriCorps member service hours. Training will not exceed 20% of total member service hours.
Program Benefits: $8,320 living allowance along with a $3,000 housing stipend for a total combined stipend of $11,320 dispersed on a monthly basis throughout the term of service. The member will have available a $1,000 reimbursement fund for gear, mileage, and training relevant to the position. Upon successful completion of program requirements, an education award amount of $1,824.07 is awarded to the member.
The living allowance and education award are taxable. Members are responsible for providing their own food. Service eligibility is contingent upon the results of a criminal and driving background check. These positions are sponsored by The Corps Network's OYSI and EAP program.
