BENEFITS SUMMARY: Full-time Benefits Summary July 2023-June 2024 JOB SUMMARY POSITION SUMMARY Performs a variety of field duties as needed to assist builders, developers and property owners by locating and marking underground power lines. Assists to monitor construction and trenching operations to ensure safety and prevent disruption of power services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Receives requests from Blue Stakes Location Center to locate and mark underground power lines; meets customers under special circumstances to perform line locates; monitors digging operations to determine compliance and safety practices.
Conducts a complete and thorough analysis of each locating request, and accurately post paint and or locating markers to let the public know where the underground cables or conduits are buried.
As part of an ongoing commitment to public safety and the reliability of the electrical system, work must be completed in an accurate and timely manner within the federal guidelines of two business days prior to excavation. Failure to so could mean a costly dig-in possibly resulting in injury, electrocution, or death.
Performs related duties as required.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience:
A. Graduation from High School or GED.
OR
B. Sufficient education and experience to demonstrate an aptitude or ability to perform above and related duties.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of underground electrical systems including, high and low voltage cable identification, equipment placement, cable burial depths, conduit and street lighting systems, residential service locations, easement and right-of-way specifications.
Ability to read and interpret maps and distinguish when the map may not be complete or accurate; learn how to operate a variety of specialized locating equipment and know when the equipment is not calibrated or operating correctly; be self-motivated and able to organize, prioritize and get the job done regardless of weather conditions or unexpected occurrences; work independently for extended hours and days, if necessary to insure that all electrical facilities are properly and accurately marked before excavation occurs; keep accurate records; prepares reports as directed.
Special Qualifications:
Must possess a valid Utah Driver's License. Must be ready to work on-call, 24/7.
Work Environment:
Tasks require constant walking, bending, stooping, and driving from site to site daily. Conditions will range from extreme heat, dust, weeds, debris in the summer to extreme cold, rain, mud, snow and ice in the winter. Regular exposure to hazardous terrain, trenches, hillsides, etc. Personnel may encounter inquisitive or irate citizens, locked or fenced locations, and encounter hazards such as high voltage electrical equipment or menacing animals, rodents, pests, dogs, etc. Must work in the public right-of-way and associated road hazards.
