Position Title: AVP, Kafka Platform Administration
Location: Charlotte, NC or Austin, TX
Work: Hybrid, onsite presence required
Job Overview:
The AVP Middleware Engineer/Admin will be responsible for managing the Confluent
Cloud and Kafka platforms for Non-Prod and Prod systems. You will help to increase
automation, ensure systems are reliable, scalable, and proactively resolve issues. You
will take an engineering approach to infrastructure and operations, solving business
problems with software and automation, take ownership of the hosted infrastructure and
ensuring that it meets the needs of the product with a particular focus on data security
and resilience.
Responsibilities:
? Serve as a Confluent Cloud and Kafka team member to design / install / deploy /
administer the platform.
? Provide 24x7 support when on call. The team is responsible for maintaining
25-30 applications in production, so workload distribution is critical. Workload
could be divided among the team, with each member potentially handling one
high-priority issue per month.
? Partner with the architecture team to drive platform alignment to modern
architecture practices.
? Patch, create Roadmaps, and assist junior engineers
? Build automation for install and platform management activities, such as restarts,
patching, and other scenarios.

The role involves detailed Kafka administration, including CI/CD pipeline management,
and components like Zookeeper, Brokers, Producers, Partitions, Consumers, Consumer
Groups, and Topics. Additional Kafka-related technology includes Kafka Connect and
Confluent Control Center, as well as various cloud components.
Requirements:
? Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field
? 3+ years of experience with Installation, configuration and administration of
Confluent Cloud or Kafka.
? 3+ years of experience with UNIX and LINUX operating systems, storage
environments, file systems, and network protocols.
? 3+ years of strong understanding of distributed systems using messaging
platforms.
? Ansible plays a significant role in automation. Experience with shell scripting,
GitHub, and Python or Java languages for scripting is also important.
? 2+ years of creating great documentation that enables other team members to
learn and execute platform engineering and management activities.
? Experience with .NET is ideal, though Java or Python skills could also be
valuable.
Preferences:
? Experience with application profiling using tools such as Dynatrace, VisualVM or
Jprofiler.
? Experience with performance tuning for JVMs, web containers, DB connection
pools, etc.
? Possess a thorough understanding of modern work practices such as
DevSecOps, Continuous Integration (CI), Continuous Delivery (CD), Agile project
Delivery, Release Engineering.
