Details of the offer

Company Summary:
Metaphore Biotechnologies, Inc. is a privately held biotechnology company building the next generation of biological therapeutics. Inspired by nature, our mission is to transform patient lives by unlocking the power of biological therapeutics with a new mimic-discovery platform.
Flagship Pioneering is a biotechnology company that invents and builds platform companies, each with the potential for multiple products that transform human health or sustainability. Since its launch in 2000, Flagship has originated and fostered more than 100 scientific ventures, resulting in more than $90 billion in aggregate value. Many of the companies Flagship has founded have addressed humanity's most urgent challenges: vaccinating billions of people against COVID-19, curing intractable diseases, improving human health, preempting illness, and feeding the world by improving the resiliency and sustainability of agriculture. The Role:
We are seeking a talented Senior Research Associate or Associate Scientist, specializing in Protein Characterization and Production. The individual will be responsible for the expression, purification and analytical characterization of proteins as part of our dynamic and collaborative team in support of discovery and AI/ML design efforts. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in protein biochemistry or biophysics, chemical engineering, or analytical chemistry. This is a critical role to help establish best practices and support scale up of Metaphore's wet-lab workflows and automation build. The right candidate will leverage their expertise in FPLC and various analytical characterization techniques to ensure reliable delivery of high-quality protein products for varied research applications.
Responsibilities:
* Implement and conduct protein purification from small to large scale using gravity purification and multi-mode chromatographic methods on FPLC (AKTA or similar) systems.
* Perform analytical characterization of proteins using UPLC systems including SEC-MALS, RP, IEX, HIC, and others.
* Use of biophysical tools for protein interaction characterization (Biolayer Interferometry (BLI), Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) etc.).
* Onboard and operate automated systems (CyBio FeliX, or similar) towards high throughput processing.
* Execute transient mammalian transfection using Expi293, ExpiCHO, and other mammalian cell lines.
* Design and implement strategies for continuous improvement and optimization of established practices and protocols.
* Prepare study reports, contribute to project documentation, and follow data capture processes in ELN and other databases.
* Effectively communicate results of experiments and analyses within the team.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in protein biochemistry, chemical engineering, or analytical chemistry with 5+ years industry experience, or Masters degree with 3+ years, post-graduate experience.
* Proven experience with protein purification using FPLC systems and analysis using HPLC/UPLC systems.
* Experience or understanding of the principles underlying biophysical characterization; thermostability, colloidal stability, and other developability techniques of biologic drugs.
* Experience with transient transfection of mammalian cells and/or stable pool generation and cell line development.
* The ideal candidate will be curious, excited to build, and motivated to grow professionally.
* Ability to work efficiently and effectively with a sense of urgency, both independently and within a group.
* Excellent attention to detail and solid organizational skills.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Familiarity with automated systems is a bonus.
At Flagship, we recognize there is no perfect candidate. If you have some of the experience listed above but not all, please apply anyway. Experience comes in many forms, skills are transferable, and passion goes a long way. We are dedicated to building diverse and inclusive teams and look forward to learning more about your unique background.
