What we are looking for We are seeking an energetic, forward-thinking, Associate/Staff Level Hydrogeologist to join our growing team in Madison, Wisconsin. The ideal candidate has a desire to make a positive impact on the environment by working on investigation, remediation, monitoring, and compliance projects. If you love doing research and technical writing but also enjoy rolling up your sleeves and doing field work, then this position might be for you. You will also need to be a quick learner and self-motivated, embrace teamwork, and be driven by a desire to grow and develop professionally.
Our typical environmental service projects include site investigation, remediation, spill response and real estate due diligence services for commercial, municipal, and industrial clients.
Solid waste projects include landfill design, construction, monitoring and maintenance, and closure for private, municipal, and electric utility clients.
How you can make an impact Design and implement soil, groundwater, surface water, and vapor intrusion investigations and remediations at landfills, industrial facilities, and commercial sites. Collect samples at various environmental and solid waste sites. Coordinate sampling activities with laboratories to provide timely analysis of samples. Troubleshoot issues when necessary. Oversee drilling activities, including monitoring well installation and abandonment, borehole logging, well development, and sampling. Assist in the planning and execution of field work; coordinate work with other staff as needed. Process and analyze data, perform statistical evaluations, and prepare reports of scientific data using prescribed methods, templates, or resources. Prepare environmental assessment/monitoring reports, including tabulated data, charts, graphs, sketches and/or figures. Compile or review routine and non-routine regulatory submittals or technical documents to ensure completeness and conformance to applicable regulatory and/or client requirements. Identify and troubleshoot potential operation and maintenance (O&M) issues with soil, groundwater, and vapor remediation systems. Arrange for, coordinate, and document subcontractors efforts in periodic O&M of remediation systems. Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, regulators, and clients as directed. Prepare reports such as: Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, groundwater, and compliance reporting. Prepare permit applications and/or regulatory agency submittals and responses with supporting documentation. Complete quality control reviews on all work products (reports, data, etc.) prior to submission. Pursue and maintain technical proficiency in assigned areas using internal and external resources. Participate in health and safety training as required. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in geoscience or hydrogeology required. Master's degree preferred. 0 to 3 years of relevant experience required, 2+ years preferred. Relevant experience may include groundwater data analysis, groundwater statistical evaluation, drilling oversight, logging soil borings, collecting soil and groundwater samples, and writing technical reports. A Master's Degree in geology or hydrogeology can be a substitute for experience. Experience with GIS and/or database management preferred. Experience with federal and state regulatory interpretation and compliance preferred. Experience with groundwater monitoring system design, implementation, and monitoring for landfills, industrial, or commercial sites preferred. Experience with and/or interest in Phase 1 and 2 Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and other property transaction due diligence services Valid, unrestricted driver's license with a driving record in good standing required. 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification preferred. Excellent oral and written (technical) communication skills required.
