The Capital Teaching Residency (CTR), housed within KIPP DC, is a teacher training program committed to increasing the number of highly effective educators in the District of Columbia. We fulfill this mission by training and certifying aspiring teachers through an intensive one-year residency in a high-performing KIPP DC school and by retaining our most effective teachers in partner schools across the DC region. The Associate Director of the Capital Teaching Residency (CTR) will be responsible for all professional development and certification coursework delivered to approximately 45 early childhood and elementary teaching residents each school year. This individual will ensure that these teachers in training receive the support, instruction, and practice they need in order to become successful lead teachers and receive their teaching certification. This individual will also manage other aspects of the program including online platforms, data oversight, and communication about residents' progress with various stakeholders in the organization. The Associate Director of CTR will report directly to the Director of the Capital Teaching Residency. The start date for this position is Summer 2024. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Professional Development Planning and Execution (40%) Manage CTR summer programming, including logistics, design of the professional development scope and sequence, session facilitation, and coordination with internal and external facilitators Design or refine school year professional development sessions and certification coursework for 45 early childhood and elementary teaching residents with support from the Director Deliver weekly or bi-weekly professional development sessions to residents and/or train and support other internal and external facilitators to deliver content Manage all logistics associated with professional development sessions including data collection, communication about session location and prework, materials prep, supply ordering, etc. with support from the team Manager of Data Systems CTR Support, Progress Monitoring and Communication (50%) Serve as an advisor to a group of teaching residents, including grading coursework assignments and providing one-on-one support Manage coaching cycles for residents including observing instruction, facilitating coaching conversations, running deliberate practice, and communicating outcomes Plan and participate in learning walks with school leaders and other relevant stakeholders Regularly design data collection tools (i.e. weekly exit slips, resident surveys, etc.) to learn how residents experience the various aspects of the CTR program Regularly review CTR program and performance data, set and execute appropriate next steps and intervene when performance flags are elevated Manage systems to communicate regularly with school leaders and other stakeholders about professional development content and resident progress in the program Craft weekly announcements that communicate programmatic updates and reminders to residents Systems Management (10%) Build and manage various virtual platforms including, but not limited to, Canvas and Google  Workspace, to communicate key programmatic details to residents, team members, and other   stakeholders QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree and/or a degree in education is a plus At least one year demonstrating a strong record of leading effective professional development for teachers At least 5 years of experience in K-12 education with at least 4 years of experience teaching in an early childhood or elementary urban school required Experience leading adults from a teacher leadership and/or school leadership role (e.g. Grade Level Chair, Department Chair, Dean, Teacher Launch Cohort Leader, Resident Development Leader, Vice Principal) People management experience preferred Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Google Workspace Flexibility to work some weekday evenings Outstanding project management, organizational and event execution skills, and extraordinary attention to detail Data-driven leader with experience collecting, analyzing, and responding to student data Strong writing and communication skills An understanding of school building dynamics and a customer service-oriented perspective Flexibility, with a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit to accommodate a high level of responsibility and multiple priorities Commitment to performing role through a lens of diversity, equity and inclusion Unquestioned integrity and commitment to the KIPP DC and CTR program missions and a passion for education COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
KIPP DC offers an extremely competitive compensation and benefits package: The anticipated starting salary for this position is $92,597-$114,384. At KIPP DC, we strive for clarity, equity, and to be highly competitive. When determining salaries we look at benchmarks in the education and non-profit sector. KIPP DC offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurances; various voluntary benefits; and employer paid benefits such as short term disability, long term disability, life insurance, and a membership to One Medical. KIPP DC also offers a 403(b) retirement account with a 3% employer contribution and a 3% match with vesting after three years. Currently, individuals in this role have up to 15 paid time off days, up to 10 paid sick days, and 12 paid holidays. This is subject to change and your exact schedule will be shared in your offer letter. As a headquarters team that is focused on being responsive to our schools and meeting the needs of our students and families, we approach our work in a way that reflects these priorities. Schools operate in person and our teachers, school staff members, and students rely on us for in-person support. This position will regularly provide on-site support to school teams, frequently partner with other headquarters teams, or regularly work in multiple locations.
