The Department of Finance manages the city's investing, fiscal analysis, budgeting, debt and asset management, tax assessment and collection, and accounting functions as well as establishing, maintaining and enforcing fiscal policies, practices and procedures for the entire City and County of Denver. The Department commits to Denver residents the delivery of these services through a financial structure that mirrors the best practices of both the public and private sectors. This commitment promotes better service, enhanced performance measures, maximum accountability and improved business processes.
The Budget and Management Office (BMO) is dedicated to thoughtfully allocating resources through strong partnerships, comprehensive analysis, and innovation. The Budget Team is responsible for producing the annual budget and making recommendations to meet the Charter requirement to propose a balanced budget by the September 15th deadline. Throughout the year, the BMO is responsible for addressing any unexpected budget changes and needs as well as to make recommendations to support the long-term financial sustainability of the City, particularly the General Fund.
What We Offer
The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $66,000.00 - $81,000.00/year, based on education and experience. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which includes but is not limited to:
A guaranteed life-long monthly pension, once vested after 5 years of service 457B Retirement plan 132 hours of PTO earned within first year + 11 paid holidays, 1 personal holiday and 1 volunteer day per year Competitive medical, dental and vision plans effective within 1 month of start date Location
The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.

The Budget and Management Office vision is to be the trusted partner in fiscally sound decision making, for the City and County of Denver. Budget team members contribute and make a difference in and for our community. The high-paced work environment facilitates skill development through involvement with unique and diverse projects.
As an Associate Budget Analyst, you will work with agencies to understand their operations and resource needs and with the rest of the BMO team and leadership to facilitate fiscally sound resource allocations. Because we are in budget season, you may temporarily be assigned to shadow and support your colleagues in the BMO with their agency portfolios and budget season projects, as needed. After this time period, the expectation is you will be assigned a full portfolio.
In order to accomplish these goals as an Associate Budget Analyst, your job responsibilities will include:
Assisting and advising agencies in the development of their annual budget requests and making annual budget recommendations Working with team members on improving processes or gathering citywide data Performing work assignments involving research, data interpretation, analysis, formulation of recommendations and both ad hoc and periodical report preparation Providing financial analysis of agency or citywide expenditures and revenue Analyzing agency operations or citywide systems and making recommendations to deliver services more efficiently and effectively Performing other duties as assigned or requested About You

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:
Has strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills Understands and has demonstrated the importance of accountability and ownership Is comfortable with numbers, numeric reconciliation, and spreadsheets Is prepared to 'roll up their sleeves' to provide agency support through routine detailed transactional work as well non-routine, complex special projects Is motivated by teamwork and contributes to building a strong team Has the ability to prioritize numerous, competing work assignments and to shift between projects to meet client demands Has some public sector budgeting or finance experience Minimum Qualifications
Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. Experience Requirement: One (1) year of professional level experience analyzing budgets, financial statements, preparing budget justification requests, and allocating funds according to spending priorities. Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for experience requirements. Application Deadline
