The Assistant Tool Maker is responsible for working as a member of a team to assist with troubleshooting problems, performing tool maintenance, fabricating tooling and modifying tools and related components to design specifications while optimizing cost and delivery.
Essential Accountabilities Assist with the fabrication, modification, maintenance, and repair of Placon's tools and mechanical components by using CNC mills, mills, lathes, drills, grinders and other shop equipment. Perform bench work such as sanding and tool assembl y . Assist in tool inspections to insure proper tool rebuilds/repairs and reduce development costs of new tools . Participate as a team member to improve work practices and methods. Understand and comply with all ISO QSP's and work instructions related to job responsibilities. Assists in Tool Vault and Sample Lab as required. Works in any department of the Company as required. Participates in training and educational opportunities, including ISO 9000 to improve individual skills, knowledge and ability. Complies with all applicable safety regulations and keeps work area neat and orderly. Assist all departments by providing machine shop support. Trouble shoot production problems and provide solutions. Perform work to the tooling schedule and adjust as required to meet Internal and external customer deadlines. Minimum Qualifications Certificate in Machine Tool Operations or related field and 1 year of experience in manufacturing environment - OR - Equivalent machine tool experience in tool fabrication, maintenance, or machine shop.
Ability to read, write and speak English to meet training, safety and quality requirements. Working knowledge on the safe and effective use of the following machine shop equipment: CAD/CAM, CNC mills, EDM's, milling machines, manual lathes, and drill presses. Must be able to read blueprints. Must be able to apply shop math to build tools.

Position Requirements Work Environment Conditions: Inside: Production, Tool Vault and Tooling department
Equipment/Tools Used: The following machine shop equipment: CNC mills, lathes, mills, grinders, cutter grinders, drill presses, band saws, table saws, digitals, welders, sandblasters, jigsaws, die bending equipment and bench grinders.
Working knowledge of the safe and effective use of the following hand tools: air routing drills, sanding equipment, hand drills, hand grinders, lay out instruments, gauge blocks, dial venires, dial indicators, micrometers, etc.

Physical Requirements: Light work (lift 10 lbs): occasionally - components & tools
