Reed College seeks an Assistant Dean for Student Rights and Responsibilities who will be responsible for the daily functions of the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities. This position collaborates closely with Reed community members to address and respond to student conduct in ways that are educational, equitable, and efficient. This role will work to cultivate an educational process that is restorative rather than punitive. The Assistant Dean will promote a safe, caring and responsive climate and facilitate avenues for repair with community members when harm has occurred. The Assistant Dean serves as an expert advisor to students, staff and faculty about restorative and resolution processes.

This role serves on the dean on-call rotation, and may be required to work weekends and evenings.
The Salary range for this position is between $74,000-$78,000 per year. Pay offers are dependent on experience and are determined in conjunction with an internal pay equity assessment. This is an exempt position on grade 7.
Who You Are You are skilled in policy development, review, and interpretation. You also have prior experience assessing, interpreting, and tracking data. You have a demonstrated history of working well under stress and have a high tolerance for ambiguity. You take initiative and can act independently while exercising excellent judgment and asking for support when needed. You are committed to diversity and inclusivity and possess a strong self-awareness of any privileged identities you hold. You quickly build rapport and positive working relationships with a wide range of constituencies (staff, students, faculty, parents, administrators) using diplomacy and tact. You are a strong communicator. You have exceptional public speaking skills, effectively conveying information and ideas to diverse audiences in a clear, engaging, and persuasive manner. You are a team player. You don't hesitate to roll-up your sleeves and pitch in, even if it's not your job. You are knowledgeable in applying trauma-informed and educationally-focused techniques to student adjudication. You are experienced in crisis response. You remain calm and above all, maintain a student-centered approach in your work. You are passionate about working with college-aged students. You have prior experience advising and supervising students and student groups. You are an expert in your field. Specifically, you are knowledgeable of applicable laws and regulations related to student adjudication, including but not limited to FERPA, Title IX, ADA/504, and the Clery Act. What You'll Do Coordinate student conduct response, hearings and trainings; including recruiting board and/or panel members Serve as an active member of the Judicial, Honor, and Restorative Justice programs including facilitating ongoing training for members and program administration Participate as an active member of the Behavioral Intervention and Care Teams, as well as other cross-campus boards or committees, as assigned Collaborate with the Title IX Coordinator and Sexual Misconduct Board to assist with formal complainants; serve when appropriate as the Facilitator for Sexual Misconduct Board Hearings; and advise the Sexual Misconduct Board in recommending sanctions when policy violations have been found. Initiate and support outreach activities to educate the community about Judicial, Honor, and Restorative Justice programs Advises campus partners regarding student rights and responsibilities Monitors and evaluates programs, policies, and procedures to ensure effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement and/or updates in accordance with federal/state regulations Serves in the Dean on-call rotation Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work-related experience 4 Years of experience working in student life and/or conduct resolution Preferred Qualifications Masters degree in a related field Experience in developing or updating student adjudication processes, procedures, and policies Prior student conduct experience in higher education Reed College is committed to building a culturally inclusive community and a work environment that respects and inspires every person.
