In addition to offering associate degrees and certificates in art, the department also provides an opportunity to explore a variety of art media. We prepare individuals to build their professional-looking portfolios for employment and/or transfer to a four-year college or university.The selected candidate, an individual qualified in foundational art courses with multidisciplinary crossover capabilities, will work as a full-time, tenure-track faculty member in the Visual Art & Design department. The candidate will teach traditional art/design physical materials courses and computer lab digitally based courses. They will join a progressive department where faculty members are thoughtful individuals, equity-minded practitioners, and knowledgeable instructors in visual arts who may utilize a variety of modalities for instructional delivery. Essential Responsibilities and Duties: Responsibilities & Duties: Teaching: Under general supervision, the faculty member will prepare and teach a combination of traditional in-person, face-to-face, hybrid, and online course modalities as assigned by the department. This position will include the development and teaching of foundational art courses that support Visual Art & Design students and the general SLCC student population. The faculty member will teach an average of 15 instructional units per semester (approximately 18 hours of in-class time per week during Fall and Spring semesters) in the Visual Art & Design Department at Salt Lake Community College. Regular full-time faculty members teach assigned day, evening, and weekend classes in accordance with established guidelines and policies. SLCC faculty participate in advising students, committee assignments, academic and institutional support activities, and other duties as assigned.
Much of the assigned teaching load may consist of introductory courses, including foundational art courses and general education courses, which require coordination of course curriculum paperwork, General Education 5-year reviews, and adjunct training. Additional duties will include participation in Visual Art & Design program curriculum development, annual program assessments, and periodic program reviews in collaboration with other program faculty.

Maintains necessary education, credentials, and professional skills and demonstrates teaching competencies consistent with department standards. Promotes professional development of peers/colleagues through recognized professional activities (in-service activities and the presentation of conference papers and/or publications, and other methodologies appropriate to the teaching field), as approved by the department. Participates in the collegial mentoring relationship, serving as a mentor and/or mentee in the department and college. Engages in local, state, and/or national professional organizations appropriate to the faculty role. Serves community partners as content area experts when needed. Completes required training and participates in professional development. Service: The faculty member will serve their program, department, school, college, and the larger community by attending both general and discipline-specific forums and meetings. Faculty are expected to serve on college and department committees and community committees, engage with the community in multiple roles, and mentor departmental adjunct faculty. The faculty member will also participate in professional development activities that are applicable to their growth as an artist and an educator. Minimum Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree plus the equivalent of two (2) years full-time employment/experience in the visual arts/art related field. --OR— Associate's degree plus the equivalent of six (6) years full-time employment/experience in the visual arts/art related field. --AND— Demonstrated experience teaching at the high school level, or in a professional industry environment, or expert certification training, or similar learning environment.. Preferred Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:Master's degree5 plus year of experience in visual artsPost-secondary teaching experienceOnline teaching experienceCurriculum development experienceStudio art teaching experience in courses such as life drawing, photography, and design.Experience with or a strong interest in utilizing proven strategies to eliminate equity gaps in student success. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: KSA's:Mastery of the foundations of visual art, including but not limited to the design process and the elements and principles of design, but also the history of art and knowledge of current trends in the visual art community.Experience in teaching studio art: drawing, painting, photography, design, etc.Significant demonstrated experience using Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.Experience teaching traditional in-person, face-to-face, hybrid, and online course modalities.Documented evidence of professional growth in teaching (training, credentials, professional development, student feedback, etc.).Knowledge of and an ability to facilitate the creation of digital portfolios for general education courses.Understanding and experience using high-impact practices (HIPs) for teaching.Support for student success when entering the workforce or transferring to a four-year college or university.Experience teaching students from underserved populations, including diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, which also includes students with disabilities.Communication skills and cross-cultural abilities that maximize effective collaboration with a diverse community of students and colleagues.Bilingual.
