Remote or Hybrid option? Job Summary The Food Innovation Center ( FIC ) invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position.


FIC is taking a leadership role in ensuring Oregon and beyond will meet 21st century food systems' challenges by supporting sustainability, innovation, and value-added processing. FIC has a long tradition of strong stakeholder engagement and impactful economic development programs.


The overall goal of this position is to promote the production of safe, innovative, and high-quality dairy products and support a healthy and sustainable dairy industry in Oregon. The position will conduct research in dairy food science such as product innovation, sustainable dairy manufacturing, dairy and health, along with product safety and quality. The position will support dairy associations, especially Oregon Dairy Industries (ODI) with planning of the annual conference and product evaluation, Oregon Dairy and Nutrition Council, Oregon Cheese Guild, and similar groups. The position may also organize workforce training through outreach courses in person and on-line. The position partners with the FIC/FST dairy foods team and Arbuthnot Dairy Center. The position will teach both a lower and an advanced dairy science course within the FST program.

30% Teaching and Advising 10% Service What You Will Need Ph.D. in Dairy Science, Food Science, Agricultural Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Food Systems Engineering, or in a closely related field of food science, engineering, or agricultural science.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. What We Would Like You to Have Experience conducting research in the science of dairy foods and in dairy technology (i.e., membrane separation process, isolation of milk proteins, whey processing).

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; work independently and cooperatively within a team; and work and communicate with audiences including colleagues, stakeholders, academics, and/or students.

Strong scientific writing and technical presentation skills professionally. Demonstrated record of publishing peer-reviewed documents and presenting scientific findings commensurate with career level.

Demonstrated experience in formal or informal education programs, including classroom instruction, extension teaching, or other education delivery methods.

Research or industrial experience working in dairy food manufacturing process.

Demonstrated ability to secure competitive funding to support a research program.

Record of/commitment to work with underrepresented/underserved students or other audiences.

Life experience, education, or training that broadens capacity to equalize student success or impact underserved audiences.


Working Conditions / Work Schedule Office and Lab environment. Travel for field research and presentations. Work may take place in varying field conditions and environments. Evening and/or weekend work may be required for conference travel and research work in the field and laboratory.
