Southeast Missouri State University Salary: Depends on Qualifications Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: ******** Location: Cape Girardeau, MO Department: Music Closing: Position Summary Assistant Professor - Music Education Tenure-Track Department of Music Holland College of Arts & Media Primary Responsibilities: Provide visionary leadership in advancing an innovative and comprehensive K-12 music education degree program that leads to single certification in vocal/choral and instrumental tracks Teach courses in the music education sequence including, but not limited to, PK-12 grade levels, including elementary and secondary music techniques Supervise and participate in field observation and student teaching courses Serves as a dual appointment in the Holland College of Arts and Media and the College of Education, Health, and Human Studies, serving as liaison for the Music Department Coordinate and participate in advising for Music Education majors within the department May teach in additional areas based on department needs and candidate's experience and interest Participate in Professional Growth as defined in the Promotion and Tenure Guidelines Participate in Service to the University and profession as defined in the Promotion and Tenure Guidelines Actively participate in recruitment efforts on- and off-campus Maintain visibility in professional organizations related to Music Education Serve as liaison and resource to PK-12 school music teachers in the region Required Qualifications Doctorate in Music Education completed by August 1, 2024. (Degree must be from a regionally accredited or internationally accredited/government-certified university) Demonstrated evidence of visionary leadership in developing an innovative and comprehensive Music Education program of excellence that incorporates diverse perspectives Demonstrated experience with vocal/choral and instrumental music education Documented experience with one or more of the following: Orff, Kodaly, and/or Dalcroze Demonstrated PK-12 school teaching experience; minimum of 3 years Demonstrated field experience supervision Demonstrated ability to teach a variety of courses, including face-to-face, blended, and online Demonstrated experience developing/advancing choral, instrumental, and general music education curriculum Demonstrated experience incorporating appropriate technologies (1:1 devices, audio, audio-visual, web-based) in courses Demonstrated peer-reviewed research or creative activity Evidence of effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills Demonstrated commitment to participation in professional organizations and mentoring students through such organizations Demonstrated commitment to collegiality when interacting with others within the University community As a public regional university (with a graduate mission), Southeast seeks candidates with a commitment to excellent undergraduate (and graduate) education and student success within the framework of the teacher-scholar model.
