Job summary
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at UNC Chapel Hill is seeking a tenure-track faculty member at the Assistant- or Associate-Professor level.The faculty member will design and carry out cutting-edge research programs utilizing the department's observational facilities.Candidates with expertise in observational astrophysics and/or telescope instrumentation are strongly preferred.

Responsibilities
• Design and carry out cutting-edge research programs utilizing the department's observational facilities• Leverage the capabilities of the SOAR project and other internal and external facilities• Promote student success through teaching and mentoring in a diverse university setting• Work collaboratively with groups in various areas of observational and experimental astrophysics• Contribute to the development and maintenance of the department's instrumentation labs• Collaborate with other institutions in the Research Triangle area• Conduct postdoctoral supervision and provide mentorship to graduate students• Publish research findings in reputable journals and present at conferences• Participate in departmental and university service activities• Contribute to the overall academic mission of the department and university
Requirements
• PhD in astrophysics, astronomy, or related field• Postdoctoral experience in observational and/or instrumental astrophysics• Expertise in observational astrophysics and/or telescope instrumentation• Ability to conduct independent research and secure external funding• Demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentoring at the university level• Strong publication record and contributions to the field• Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse and interdisciplinary environment• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills• Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in academia• Ability to contribute to departmental and university service activities
