Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ) — a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York — seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Assistant Program Director to support our Promise Academy II charter school Athletics Programming.
The Assistant Athletics Director will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children's Zone: breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in sports, school, work, and life.
We are seeking an Assistant Program Director to help lead and manage the day-to-day activities of the Promise Academy II Athletics Department. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, organized, and detail-oriented professional with athletic/recreation program, and project management experience, with a background in and intense passion for sports, health, fitness, collaboration, and resource allocation.
Manage all sports programs, grades K – 12
Develop and organize sports, fitness, and health curricula for coaches to facilitate
Supervise Coaches, practices, and games to ensure the proper athletic and safety supplies are present
Direct staff to ensure efficient, successful, and safe program delivery
Help develop programs, procedures, and processes where needed (i.e., scheduling, operations, staffing, and budgets)
Enforce all policies and procedures to ensure the safety of program participants and staff
Stay in compliance with regulations enumerated by Promise Academy/HCZ; the Department of Health; the Department of Youth; and Community Development; and the School Age Childcare license requirements
Ensure the facility is always prepared for planned and impromptu site visits and inspections
Ensure the facility is always organized and all sporting equipment is ready for usage
Manage and review data, and ensure completion and dissemination of all reports as required
Ensure programs consistently meet and exceed the goals set where appropriate
Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with various Promise Academy/HCZ departments, city agencies, community organizations, schools, various leagues, and parents
Foster strong relationships and effective communications with HCZ senior leadership and staff
Perform other duties as assigned
Who You Are
Committed to the mission and programs of HCZ
Bachelor's degree with 3-5+ years of progressive experience, preferably in a supervisory role, and an intense passion for sports, health, and fitness
Ideal candidate will have experience managing a large athletic program, recreation center, or fitness facility that offers a variety of programming
Experience working with youth and adolescent population
Comfortable working with outside community organizations and contracted program providers
Must have excellent management and administrative skills
Strong communication skills, both oral and written
Knowledge of and sensitivity to issues prevalent in underserved communities of color
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook
Ability to work flexible hours, as required by the demands of the program, including weekends
Schedule
On-Site (Monday-Friday) 11 AM-7 PM
