Position Summary:

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is seeking a full-time Architectural Historian with 4-7 years' experience to assist our Cultural Resources team. The position will entail technical work focusing on historic structures documentation and evaluation, and architectural survey work.

U.S. Residency Required.
Additional JMT office locations may be considered.
The successful candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary team including archaeologists, architectural historians, historians, environmental scientists, engineers, and planners. The qualified candidate must be able to write at a professional level and present ideas in a well thought-out and comprehensive manner. The preferred candidate will enjoy a variety of working conditions ranging from field efforts to office analysis.
Compensation is $65,000. - $85,000. annual salary, commensurate with experience, education, and certifications.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Conducts archival and background research
Conducts architectural and historical field surveys
Documents methodologies and findings of research and investigations
Prepares architectural inventory forms
Writes architectural and historical resources reports
Assists in making decisions about project alternatives and the resolution of adverse effects to architectural resources
Assists in the preparation of scopes of work, fee proposals, and responses to RFP's
Writing property descriptions, historical narratives, significance statements, and National Register justifications
Section 106 effect evaluations
Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities
Performs other related duties as assigned
Required Experience

Master's degree in Historic Preservation (or a related field) from an accredited school in Historic Preservation
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
Meets, or exceeds, the requirements for an Architectural Historian and/or Historian under the Secretary of the Interior's Standards
Must possess a valid driver's license and be capable of renting a car
Preferred Experience
Familiarity with AutoCADD and/or Microstation, ArcMap, and/or other GIS Programs
Familiarity with Adobe PhotoShop, Illustrator, and InDesign
Experience with GIS and Adobe Acrobat Professional
Experience with digital photography (including SLR cameras)
FHWA or ACHP Certified Section 106 Course
Working Conditions
Work is performed in the field 50% of the time and requires the ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Field work will require walking and carrying field equipment over typical outdoor terrain. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
Office work is performed within a general office environment 50% of the time. Office work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Office work is performed with adequate lighting and temperature, with no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc.
The position will entail up to 50 percent travel throughout the United States (primarily southeast). Candidate must be willing to travel throughout the U.S. for brief (e.g., 1 or 2 week) work efforts on their own as well as with coworkers.
