The Digital, Device & Alexa Support – Science & Analytics team is seeking an Applied Scientist to develop cutting-edge machine learning and NLP solutions to realize customer issues and better provide customer service. This individual research and implement innovative solutions that help Amazon provide the best possible customer service experience. We are looking for individuals with a passion for learning, researching, and deploying new technologies working with several departments. We like to move fast, experiment, iterate and scale quickly, while thoughtfully balancing speed and quality.
Key job responsibilities
- Translating business questions and concerns into specific quantitative questions that can be answered with available data using sound methodologies. In cases where questions cannot be answered with available data, work with engineers to produce the required data.
- Retrieving, synthesizing, and presenting data in a format that is immediately useful to answering specific questions or improving system performance.
- Applying statistical or machine learning knowledge to solve specific business problems.
- Building decision-making models and proposing solutions for the business problem you defined
- Conducting written and verbal presentations to provide insights and recommendations to audiences of varying levels of technical sophistication to aid in with making decisions.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:
Seattle, WA, USA BASIC QUALIFICATIONS - 3+ years of building models for business application experience
- PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of CS, CE, ML or related field experience
- Experience in patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
- Experience in any of the following areas: algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high-performance computing
