Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit: The Department of Epidemiology is one of the seven departments located in the Gillings School of Global Public Health. The department's primary focus is to the development and application of research methods to understand the patterns and causes of health and disease, and the application of that knowledge to improving the health of populations. We provide strong training in research methods and opportunities for the application of epidemiology to a wide range of health problems through our research. The achievements of our faculty, staff, students, and alumni have enabled us to become one of the leading academic departments of epidemiology in the world. The department has 39 Tenured-Tenure Track /10 Joint Tenure-Track Faculty, 25 Fixed Term / 2 Joint Fixed Term Faculty, 120 Adjuncts, 20 EHRA Non-Faculty, 22 Postdocs, 35 SHRA (Staff), 24 SHRA Temporary and 181 students enrolled- 162 PhD and 19 MSCR. The department's operating budget is 27 million a year.
Position Summary: * Conducts scientific data management and documents data management steps for future reference
* Conducts analyses of large genotype and phenotype datasets
* Implements R statistical and computational pipelines for analyses in a Linux-based environment
* Creates figures to display results
* Functions with a high degree of accuracy in every step. Careful attention to protocols and integrated details of data used are crucial to the quality of work
* Displays excellent interpersonal and communication skills as there is interaction with members of a multi-disciplinary team of individuals within and outside UNC
* Exhibits effective decision-making while adhering to the ethics related to conducting research on human subjects and following protocol-specific security guidelines
* Works independently and prioritizes his/her own work as s/he will be responsible for meeting deadlines and implementing any needed reporting, data manipulation, or analyses on time
Projects include: Genetics of Kidney Disease in Diverse Populations, Genome of CVD in Chronic Kidney Disease Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, math, or Engineering or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or
Bachelor's degree and some computer coursework from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in business application consulting or development; or
Associate's degree in Computer Programming and one year of experience in application consulting or development; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Journey level requires an additional one year of experience.
- Advanced level requires an additional two years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience: Master level Biostatistics degree
Experience working with genetic and multi-omic data, including admixture mapping statistical modelling, Bayesian modelling, and integrative analyses of multi-omics, preferably related kidney disease traits. Special Physical/Mental Requirements: Little physical effort is required but continual visual concentration and typing is required.
