Application Developer / Systems Programmer

Application Developer / Systems Programmer
Company:

Los Alamos National Laboratory

Details of the offer

Full job description What You Will Do

The Laboratory Directed Research and Development (LDRD) program is responsible for supporting high- risk, high-reward research that creates innovative technical solutions for some of the Nation's most difficult challenges. With a budget of over $200M, the LDRD office is charged with the planning, execution, and reporting of approximately 500 cutting-edge research projects. Many of the exciting discoveries and technologies developed at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) can be traced to LDRD investment.

This position will be filled at the Application Developer 1or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level. Application Developer 1 ($69,500 - $110,300)
As an Application Developer 1, you will develop and support applications that enable the management and execution of LANL's LDRD program. Success in this role requires coding expertise, an agile and systematic approach to software design, and effective implementation of business requirements via online applications including the Q database system. Q's many functions include proposal handling, review, and scoring; project appraisals; project reporting; flexible search of the LDRD archives; and interface with the NNSA's Los Alamos Site Office. Additional LDRD applications include a green implementation of Q, which allows the secure engagement of external reviewers via a bridge from the protected yellow internal network; a secure system on the red internal network; and the LDRD Proposal Reviewer Management System (PRMS), which recruits for and organizes peer review panels. Q and PRMS interface with Research Library and other institutional services via APIs. All LDRD systems are regularly upgraded to support the continuous improvement of the LDRD program via new functionalities. This position offers an opportunity not only for systems programming at the cutting edge, but also for hands-on engagement with some of the Laboratory's most exciting research and development.

Application Developer 2 ($83,900 - $136,600)
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, the Application Developer 2 will also share responsibility for various operational and business processes within the LDRD office, including conceiving and/or implementing improvements to these processes, with minimal supervision from the Program Director and Deputy Program Director. The Application Developer 2 will also be tasked to assist in bi-weekly meetings attended by the LDRD leadership team. This individual will also aid in the gathering of requirements of new features, through one-on-one discussions or meetings with the LDRD team. Other responsibilities of the Application Developer 2 may include the maintenance and improvement of the system functioning on the red internal network.
