Details of the offer

The Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), open rank, non-tenure-track faculty educational position as an Anatomical Sciences Educator to teach gross anatomy to medical and health professions students.
The appointee shall provide educational and related services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university's missions and goals of teaching, research, outreach and public service. The successful candidate will be part of a team of anatomy educators who provide instruction in gross anatomy, embryology, and neuroanatomy. Teaching duties will be primarily in gross anatomy, including the development and delivery of lectures, dissection and prosection laboratory learning experiences, and appropriate assessments. The successful candidate is encouraged to conduct research or scholarly activity related to medical education, anatomy, or a related field.

The teaching facilities at OHSU include a state-of-the-art anatomical dissection and surgical simulation laboratory, and a cutting-edge learning studio that supports traditional lectures and small group and team-based learning. The clinical gross anatomy content at OHSU is team-taught and delivered as part of a systems-based curriculum that integrates basic and clinical biomedical science content. Anatomy for other health professions students at OHSU (dental, physician assistant, radiation therapy) are stand-alone courses.
The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. (or equivalent terminal degree) in anatomy or a related field. A demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching medical gross anatomy is required as this is the primary responsibility of this position. A minimum of three years of experience with documented excellence in teaching gross anatomy, including dissection, in a medical or health profession curriculum is required. Understanding of the principles of effective and inclusive instruction and course design is essential. Those with an equivalent combination of relevant and recent experience, education, and or training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. The ability to work with a team of anatomists to provide educational content is essential. Excellent organizational and time management skills are necessary. After becoming established, a limited amount of committee service will also be a part of the position. Proficiency with learning management systems, Microsoft Office products (especially PowerPoint), Adobe products (e.g., Photoshop and Illustrator), video production and editing software, and multimedia creation software is desired.
