DYS is the juvenile corrections system for the state of Ohio. DYS is statutorily mandated to confine felony offenders, ages 10-21, who have been adjudicated and committed by one of Ohio's 88 county juvenile courts. During their stay with DYS, youth are engaged in programming that is designed to address their criminological and behavioral needs. DYS reaches thousands of youth in facilities and those on parole.

What You'll Do… The Department of Youth Services provides stability, support, safety, and security for all youth and employees at DYS . The Administrative Professional 1 will provide secretarial support to Unit Operations.
Duties are included but not limited to:
Provide secretarial support functions to Unit Operations Types, proofreads, and edits documents, memos, and reports. Professionally respond to inquiries Skilled in Excel & Microsoft Word Exhibit strong organization skills Receives, reviews and distributes all incoming mail, correspondence and directives. Communicate, apply & relay DYS policies & procedures Maintains and provides applicable documentation as required by American Correctional Association Standards provides clerical support for meetings, hearings, special projects. Organizes, alphabetizes and files correspondence, forms, reports. Possess a strong work ethic & dependability Produces typed copies of staff correspondence, schedules, logs kites, and responses. Qualifications… Leadership, professionalism, creativity, strong interpersonal communication skills, good judgment of people and situations, change agent, excellent customer service, and solution driven.

Qualifications
1 yr. trg. or 1 yr. exp. in secretarial science or business office applications.
For positions requiring technical terminology, applicants must also have 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in relevant technical terminology. Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above

Knowledge of English grammar & composition; arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication & division; records management; business communications; administrative practices & procedures*; general office practices & procedures; agency-specific office practices & procedures*. Skill in keyboarding; business office software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office); operation of personal computer & office machines (e.g., transcribing equipment, calculators). Ability to deal with problems involving several variables within familiar context; apply principles to solve practical, everyday problems; interpret instructions in written or oral form; write routine business letters following standard procedures; complete routine forms or records; make appointments; arrange items in numerical or alphabetical order; move fingers easily to perform manual functions; assess questions & provide appropriate information or referral.

All new candidates hired to the Department of Youth Services must partake in paid, mandatory 4 weeks of training. Week 1 is held at IRJCF, weeks 2 through 4 are held in Orient, Ohio, 10-hour training days, Monday through Thursday. The state of Ohio covers transportation, meals and lodging.
