Job Description
The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, helping that team reach their full potential and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. Your day to day will include maintaining compliance with all relevant regulations and standards. Reporting directly to the Accounting Director, the Accounting Manager plays a critical role in supporting the financial health and integrity of American Alarm and Communications.

Duties and Responsibilities

Department Oversight: Manage the accounting department, including overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and staff accountants.

Financial Reporting: Oversee preparation and review of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements. Ensure accuracy and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and company policies.

Month-End Close: Oversee the month-end close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial analysis. Ensure coordination with other departments to gather necessary information and resolve any discrepancies.

Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the development of annual budgets and periodic forecasts. Monitor actual performance against budgeted targets and provide analysis to support decision-making.

Audit Support: Collaborate with external auditors during annual audits and periodic reviews. Oversee internal staff reconciliations, prepare supporting schedules and documentation, address audit inquiries, and implement recommendations for process improvements.

Internal Controls: Establish and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the accuracy of financial records. Regularly review processes and procedures to identify areas for enhancement.

Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance on technical matters and professional development opportunities. Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Tax Compliance: Oversee tax compliance activities, including the timely filing of property and sales tax returns and the remittance of tax payments. Stay abreast of changes in tax laws and regulations that may impact the organization.

Systems and Technology: Evaluate accounting software and other financial tools to optimize efficiency and effectiveness. Collaborate with IT staff to implement upgrades, resolve technical issues, and ensure data security.

Financial Analysis: Conduct ad hoc financial analysis as requested by management, providing insights into business performance, trends, and opportunities for improvement.

Requirements and skills
• Advanced degree in Accounting, CPA preferred
• 10 years of operational experience in A/R, A/P, Payroll, and Cash
• Proven knowledge of accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations including ASC606 Revenue Recognition and ASC842 Lease Accounting
• Advanced computer skills on MS Office, accounting software and databases
• Ability to manipulate large amounts of data
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to direct, supervise and develop staff
