Accountant Purpose of the Job The primary purpose of the Accountant position at Coptic Orphans is to handle accounting and financial processes across multiple locations, including the US Headquarters and our country offices in Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom. This role is pivotal in ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), relevant laws and regulations, and internal organizational policies.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Accounting Systems and Records Management: Update, maintain, and ensure the accuracy of accounting records and systems across all operational regions. Maintain strong internal controls and adhere to sound business practices, ensuring compliance with all external laws/regulations and internal policies. Financial Processing Oversight: Oversee payment processing, including carefully examining invoices, payables, and corporate credit card charges. Analyze and ensure the accuracy of cash receipts, accounts receivable (A/R), accounts payable (A/P), and other financial data. General Ledger and Bank Reconciliation: Reconcile all General Ledger and Bank accounts timely to ensure accuracy. Prepare journal entries and manage the timely process of month-end closing. Conduct credit card reconciliations to ensure accuracy and adherence to financial policies. Contributions Management: Record donations in Salesforce and reconcile contributions batches, ensuring accurate bookkeeping of contributions. Understand the synchronization between Salesforce and Sage Intacct for effective financial management. Communicate effectively with IT regarding changes in financial systems or processes. Access all gateway and merchant portals and liaise with relevant departments regarding financial batches and checks. External Audit and Reporting: Support in preparing schedules, reports, documents, and files for the annual external audit. Payroll Management: Administer payroll functions, ensuring timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions. Maintain comprehensive knowledge of payroll regulations and standards, and ensure compliance with all relevant laws and internal policies. Oversee the entire payroll process, including the verification of employee information, handling deductions, and addressing payroll-related inquiries and issues. Secure Handling of Deposits & In-Kind Donations: Manage the process of depositing checks and securely handle and maintain in-kind donations. System and Process Development: Maintain and update the chart of accounts and the detailed structure of the financial system setup. Develop and maintain the Accounting Procedures Manual. Document existing processes and update new procedures specific to Finance department functions and interdepartmental activities impacting finances. Work with the Finance Director and management to develop new processes, procedures, and reporting to address continued growth and new developments. Ad-hoc Responsibilities: Perform other responsibilities and tasks as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and responsiveness to changing needs and requirements. Required Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills Bachelor's degree in accounting or related discipline and at least 5 years of accounting experience preferably in non-profit; CPA is a Plus. Sage Intacct or a comparable system is a must; Salesforce experience is a plus Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; Advanced Excel & Data Analysis skills are a Plus. Excellent analytical skills, organizational skills, and keenly detail-oriented Excellent communication, verbal written, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in Arabic is a plus. Demonstrated ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks in a time-efficient manner. Ability to identify strengths and weaknesses in a process and make adjustments. Ability to work with minimal supervision; work well in a team and independently.
