Full job description JOB TITLE: Accountant REPORTS TO: Controller FLSA: Exempt Salary Range: $67,000 - $89,000 ORGANIZATION MISSION The National Civil Rights Museum, located at the historic Lorraine Motel, honors and
preserves the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We chronicle the American civil rights
movement and tell the story of the ongoing struggle for human rights. We educate and
serve as a catalyst to inspire action to create positive social change.
POSITION SUMMARY The Accountant is responsible for implementing & managing accounting functions for
the Finance Department.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Performs and manages General Ledger & Fixed Asset functions with limited supervision Responsible for performing responsibilities with a high level of discretion and independent judgment Posts cash receipts, expenses or other transactions to journals or ledgers and verifies accuracy Reviews invoices, vouchers and other documents for correction before entering into records Maintains accounting records according to government regulations & GAAP standards Reconciles bank statements and Balance sheet accounts Maintains accounting databases, i.e. Financial Edge software Prepares monthly and Annual financial statements Prepares monthly State Sales Tax Report and processes payment Prepares monthly expenditure reports for all Museum departments and the Museum enterprise as well as Assisting department heads with analysis of their
departments financials and overall museum statistics.
Monitors daily reports to input receipts from each days business into Financial Edge software program Reviews contractual agreements for accuracy and compliance, as required Maintains aging account information Performs month end/year-end financial closing reports with other Finance Staff Assists with the year-end financial audit for the Museum Cross functional department collaboration in financial and budgeting reporting Assists in preparation of annual budget for the Museum Prepares statistical reports, e.g. monthly attendance report, and advises Museum Staff and Conventions & Visitors Bureau of results

Conducts analysis of financial data, as required Provides timely technical and financial help to staff, as needed Manages all cash control and banking functions, including credit card merchant accounts, cash audits, cash management, prepares deposits for Bank Courier
transport, & reconciliation of funds
Operates personal vehicle for Museum banking functions & attends offsite meetings/functions of a time sensitive nature OTHER FUNCTIONS The Accountant performs additional functions (essential or otherwise), which may be
assigned from time to time. The position may require work on weekends, nights, and
holidays to accommodate facility programming and utilization.



TYPICAL PHYSICAL / SOCIAL REQUIREMENTS Requires the ability to operate general office equipment and occasionally move various office items weighing approximately 15 lbs. or less Must exhibit strong people skills and be comfortable interacting with the general public While the majority of the work is performed inside, some outdoor work is required during various Museum-related functions MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS BA Degree in Accounting or Finance, Master's Degree in Accounting or Finance is a plus Six (6) years of full-time professional accounting experience; in General Ledger, Fixed Assets/Construction in Progress, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable,
Financial Statement preparation Must be knowledgeable of federal, state and local operating regulations of non- profit organizations Proven ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite and Financial Edge software Effective written and oral communication skills are essential; ability to communicate professionally with vendors, customers, and other staff members
verbally and with written communication.
