Job Description This position uses knowledge and judgement to coordinate accommodations for students with disabilities; to develop expertise with adaptive software and equipment; to tutor or arrange peer tutors for special population students with or without disabilities; to provide an alternate resource for Disability Services and the Learning Resource Center. These job duties support and develop solutions to the work functions and initiatives of the department as they contribute to, and align with the college's mission, goals, and key results. This position exists to advance the college goals of equity, inclusion and persistence.
Specific Duties Include:
Advise and tutor students with disabilities or academic disadvantages in the Learning Resource Center, to aid comprehension of and or completion of text material, lecture notes, handouts, lab assignments or other homework. Provide encouragement, direction and support for students during times of academic or personal difficulty and referring them to other resources when appropriate. Maintain student database for Perkins Grant. Serve as a presenter on study skills, test anxiety and D2L basics. Coordinate accommodations for students with disabilities by consulting with the Director of Academic Support Programs that include but are not limited to; researching, attaining and training for proficiency in alternative formats and monitoring student use of adaptive equipment and software (R&W). Monitor tutoring pages and links on website and assist in maintaining current CRLA certification for both campuses. Assist students with disabilities or academic disadvantages who are transitioning from high school or transition programs by consulting with the Director of Academic Support Programs. Knowledge of:
English sufficient to speak, read, understand, and respond to written and spoken communications across a wide range of abilities Advanced software applications, and adaptive software and equipment sufficient to respond to requests and needs of students Skill in:
Customer service sufficient to aid in college to work transitions, and high school to postsecondary recruitment and transitions for students with disabilities and academic disadvantages Ability to:
Manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously Compile, research and analyze information regarding alternate format options Attain proficiency in the use of adaptive software and equipment and in various placement testing services and procedures Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications (desired but not expected to have to enter job) 2-year or 4-year degree in related field Three to five years' experience working in a team-oriented department. Working knowledge of the Information Technology field Skill in guiding the work assignments of student workers Teamwork skills involving the ability to communicate openly with other team members, share opinions with others, openly deal with conflict or problems, and avoid blaming behaviors. Ability to negotiate, resolve conflicts, and manage crisis Demonstrated understanding of and experience with equity and inclusion Ability to aid and tutor diverse special populations and to expand areas of tutoring expertise Other Requirements About in Minnesota.
