The Academic Program Specialist will assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the academic experience for students participating in the UI REACH (Realizing Educational and Career Hopes) Program, including the following: classroom teaching, curriculum development, academic assessment, and academic student support.
This is a specified term appointment at a 100% effort during the school year starting approximately August 1 – May 31. Position will be placed on a leave of absence for the months of June and July. Health and Dental benefits if selected will continue during the leave period. The specified term may be eligible for renewal.

Specific Job Duties and Tasks Instruct UI REACH students in a variety of academic settings to promote their academic, career, and independent living growth. Support students enrolled in integrated coursework through regular check-ins, progress monitoring, and connecting students with campus resources. Deliver informal and formal assessments to UI REACH students in academic or experiential learning settings for instructional planning and student reporting purposes. Assist in the development and implementation of UI REACH curriculum and courses. Utilize classroom management techniques to create a positive behavioral climate in and out of the classroom. Mentor and provide one to one academic related support to UI REACH Students. Assist students in person centered planning, conflict resolution, and problem solving. Monitor student progress; communicate progress and/or concerns and issues to the UI REACH administrative team and families. Communicate regularly with UI REACH parents and/or guardians. Write and maintain case notes and supporting documentation. Use current technologies for instruction and assessment, advising, collaboration, and other duties. Assist with planning and implementing special student programming, such as: student orientation, move-in, and campus activities. Assist in developing and maintaining partnerships with student support services on campus. Participate in the collection of program outcome data.

Education Requirement A Bachelor's degree in education or a related field or the equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience. Typical minimum experience is six months to one year. Required Qualifications Demonstrated successful experience working in a team environment by exhibiting effective teamwork and contributing to an overall positive and productive work/team environment. Demonstrated ability to create a welcoming and respectful environment. Experience working with individuals with disabilities in an academic, work, or community setting. Classroom teaching experience at the secondary or higher education level. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in computer software applications.
