Job Summary As a GIS Support Specialist with Minnesota IT Services (MNIT) and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), you will provide Geographic Information System (GIS) technical assistance to DNR staff statewide, on-site GIS support to regional and field offices in a DNR Region to provide Regional Operations and DNR business unit project support when needed. You will participate in GIS Section and Professional Services projects as required, and will also support and augment the Regional GIS Support Specialist staff in other DNR Regions.
This position is currently eligible for full-time telework: Telework for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies in St Paul, Minnesota. Only candidates located in Minnesota and bordering states (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) are telework eligible. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following qualifications in their resume. This position requires a minimum of two (2) years of GIS support experience with ESRI desktop software, ArcGIS Pro.
Experience must include:
Natural resource related applications of GIS, and troubleshooting GIS software and data issues.
ArcGIS Pro and Portal for ArcGIS experience, and creation of web maps and hosted feature layers. Performing vector and raster GIS data analysis using spatial overlay, map algebra, and data relation tools. Scripting languages such as Python for GIS procedure automation. Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties. Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving. A bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a related field substitutes for two (2) years of experience, OR a related associate's degree substitutes for one (1) year.
Preferred Qualifications Experience teaching and creating GIS support documentation. Attention to detail and the ability to quickly master new technical procedures and technology. Experience with mobile data collection software such as Collector for ArcGIS or Survey123 or Avenza Maps. Familiarity with Garmin, Trimble, or similar Global Position System (GPS) units. Experience with DNR GIS productivity tools such as Quick Layers and the MN DNR Toolbox tools. Familiarity and experience with the Geospatial Data Resource Site (GDRS) and content.
