Description The ORISE Education Internship provides an opportunity for a pre-service teacher to gain valuable experience in education and government outreach.
What will I be doing? The ORISE Education Intern will participate in a variety of activities related to the development of content for the ORISE Virtual Institute (VI) website. The Intern will assist ORISE staff with the creation of ideas for competitions, games, and lesson topics. The Intern will have the opportunity to develop their curriculum evaluation and editing skills through the review of lesson and activity plans for the website. The Intern will attend outreach events, both virtually and in-person and will assist with the recruitment of new teachers and students to the VI through outreach to state science and math teacher professional organizations and other groups. Interns will help with other ORISE projects, as needed. 
During their time at ORISE, under the guidance of a mentor, the Education Intern will:
- Become familiar with the programs and resources offered by ORISE
- Develop skills in curriculum evaluation
- Design rubrics for scoring and improve their ability to develop a reliable evaluation tool
- Gain exposure to various pedagogical skills through observation and assistance of educators leading courses through ORISE
- Lead activities for students and teachers, receive feedback, and improve their teaching practice
- Attend K-12 outreach activities in Oak Ridge area schools to connect students, parents, and teachers to ORISE resources
- Develop Excel skills
- Improve their professional writing through feedback from ORISE staff and educators
- Develop soft skills such as leadership, flexibility, and public communication through mentorship and feedback
- Gain knowledge of the processes of government subcontractors and learn about a variety of sponsoring agencies
Why should I apply? - The hours and dates of participation are flexible, anywhere from 15-20 hours/week up to 40 hours/week
- You will receive a bi-weekly stipend for your participation
- Appointment duration is flexible and can be extended into the school year if desired 
Where will I be located? The ORISE office is in Oak Ridge, TN. You will participate both in-person and remotely. No relocation or housing expenses will be provided. 
Qualifications Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree with a major or minor in an education field. 
Planning to pursue a career as a K-12 educator, preferably in a STEM field. 
Eligibility Requirements Citizenship: LPR or U.S. Citizen Degree: Currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree. Academic Level(s): Graduate Students or Undergraduate Students.
