Job Description:The person in this position will work with project teams to provide computer-aided drafting expertise, primarily using AutoCAD software. Typical duties may include data collection, planning, and problem solving related to structural design. Project work will include drafting design of foundations and supports, steel framing, access platforms, stacks, pumping and piping systems, industrial equipment, conveyor systems, and various details.Practical design knowledge of steel and concrete structures such as buildings, dams, hydraulic structures, equipment supports, foundations, retaining walls, and other similar structures will be required as well as the ability to visualize three-dimensional relationships from two-dimensional views. Drawings will be completed using AutoCAD and/or Revit software. Occasional assistance with mechanical, electrical, or civil design may also be required.Minimum Qualifications:Two-year technical certificate or other education or training directly related to the job responsibilities described above; past structural design job experience using CAD; or job experience in a related industry (construction, detailing, fabrication, etc.) where reading and understanding engineering design drawings was requiredAbility and desire to work independently and collaboratively with structural engineers and CAD and design staffAttention to detailStrong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skillsAbility to follow safety procedures and work in a safe mannerFlexible working style and willingness to modify personal schedule when required to meet deadlines and client needsLegal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the futureValid driver's license and acceptable driving recordPreferred Qualifications:1 or more years of job experience in a related industryExperience with 3D software such as Revit, CADWorx, Solidworks, etc.Familiarity with work on a variety of structural systems including heavy steel framing, concrete foundations, and concrete and masonry wallsExperience with drafting and design in other engineering disciplines, such as mechanical, civil, or electricalA hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Hibbing, Minnesota, office.NOTE: Applicants must be able to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and to enter and work in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities.
