POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Reporting directly to the Director of Special Services the Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) provides speech and language services in the areas of student assessment, augmentative alternative communication devices, direct therapy, training and consultation to staff and families to support students to function to their highest possible level within the educational system. The Speech Language Pathologist participates as a member of an education team in the assessment and program evaluation for students. The SLP serves as a liaison with medical and community service providers on behalf of children with disabilities and their families.

Essential Functions :

Inform principals, teachers and other school personnel of speech, language and/or hearing services.Organize and conduct an identification program for communication disorders by utilizing screening criteria, materials, procedures and record-keeping strategies.Select and employ diagnostic procedures and develop guidelines for a comprehensive remediation program.Establish criteria for caseload selection and dismissal.Select and implement therapy strategies for modifying communicative behavior of each student with a speech, language and/or hearing disorder.Maintain a system to record all identification and evaluative data and continuous student performance information.Identify and define factors which determine the effectiveness of therapy. Redefine goals and modify therapy strategies consistent with the individual education plan (IEP) or the individual family service plan (IFSP).Consult with parents, educators and other professionals regarding needs of children/students to assure appropriate learning experiences.Complete all required reports and records for compliance within statutory guidelines.Provide technical assistance to communication technicians and assistants.Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of safety practices and procedures

Knowledge of screening and diagnostic procedures

Knowledge of therapy strategies for modifying communicative behavior of students.

RESPONSIBILITY:

Responsible for maintaining legal records including but not limited to IEP's, and Medicaid billing

Responsible for working under limited supervision using standardized practices

Responsible for working within a defined budget

Responsible for creating and organizing a therapy schedule for students

Responsible for maintaining safety protocols for staff and students

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 50% walking, and 40% standing. The job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

Experience : Job related experience is desired.

Education : Master's degree in related field

Certificated & License Requirements

WA State ESA Certificate with Speech Language Pathology endorsement

Valid First Aid & CPR Certificate
