In this role, you will manage and collaborate with internal partners to research and implement practical and appropriate product safety measures for company products. You may also represent the company in matters relating to product safety. We're seeking someone who can understand advanced machine systems, analyze anticipated machine operations, solve complex problems, and work with internal and external parties to identify practical solutions to complex problems.
Duties: Including but not limited to:
• Lead and develop a team of Product Safety engineers who evaluate product development plans and designs from the standpoint of product safety, including identifying hazards, reasonably foreseeable misuse, and hazard mitigation through specifying design criteria and preparing documentation.
• Represent the organization in global industry technical organizations and association committees.
• Establish and maintain product safety engineering considerations to meet external regulations and internal and external standards for products.
• Investigate accidents and incidents, as directed by the legal team, and assist in determining whether subsequent remedial measures should be implemented.
• Assist in product liability matters, as directed by the legal team, including representing the organization as a corporate witness.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Agricultural, Electrical Engineering, or other related field with a minimum of fifteen years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to effectively manage and influence product safety activities at Vermeer.
• Strong working knowledge of national and international product safety standards, regulations, and laws.
• Ability to identify reasonably foreseeable misuse of equipment and hazard recognition and mitigation for accident prevention.
• Ability to be professional and emotionally stable when viewing machines involved in various accidents and incidents and document the facts.
• Ability to provide informative and professional assistance when working with the public, customers, and co-workers and maintain positive interpersonal relationships that encourage openness.
Travel:
• Occasional travel is expected of this position.
