Full job description The research lab of Dr. James Eagan is seeking highly skilled chemists, polymer scientists, rubber scientists, chemical engineers, or material scientists for a postdoctoral research position in sustainable polymers. A PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering, polymers, material science, or related discipline is required. The responsibilities include conducting research on the synthesis and structure/property relationships of new polymeric materials.
Technical proficiency in air-free techniques, glovebox, polymer synthesis, and catalysis is expected. Methods of polymer analysis that the researcher is expected to be proficient in include, NMR, GPC, DSC, TGA, DMA, HPLC, and Tensile Testing. Specialization in rubber processing, RPA, SEM, AFM, and rheology are favorable, but not required.
In addition to research, the postdoc shall work collaboratively and professionally with all members of the lab and University of Akron. This includes supporting PhD and undergraduate students in their separate projects and research problems, and maintaining lab equipment such as glovebox, GPC, or HPLC instruments. The scientist will further write lab reports and publications to meet grant deadlines and reporting requirements. Teaching opportunities are available for the postdoctoral associate subject to further negotiation.
The position is a 1-year contract, extendable up to 3-years upon satisfactory performance and eligible for pay raises commensurate with annual performance evaluations.

The project is an NSF funded research project on the synthesis of degradable polymers derived from CO2.
Additional Position Information:
Required Qualifications: PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering, material science, polymers, or related field. Experience in polymer synthesis and analysis.
Preferred Qualifications: Elastomer characterization; catalysis or chemical synthesis.
