Full job description Key Responsibilities:? The TNDAGC is seeking an experienced candidate to fill the position of Research Director. This position will be primarily responsible for growing and developing the research division of the TNDAGC, as expanded by recent legislation. This includes but is not limited to identifying and providing for the research needs of the office and supervising our team of research analysts. Research focus areas will primarily center around criminal justice and crime trends but may also include interpreting and organizing critical information relating to economic trends, political initiatives, and other issues affecting our court system, other government entities, and the public.?
The ideal candidate will have enthusiasm for leading a team and possess excellent data collection and analysis skills. Strong writing and communication skills, knowledge of the criminal justice system, self-motivation, flexibility, and initiative for self-improvement are highly valued.?
Minimum Qualifications:? A qualified candidate should have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the social or behavioral sciences, communications, business, business administration, public policy, criminal justice, finance, or economics. Preference will be given to candidates with advanced degrees or certifications in any of these listed fields. In addition, 6+ years of experience performing research and preparing reports of findings is preferred. A qualified candidate should be highly motivated, innovative, and able to take direction and work toward established goals.?
Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, such as lifting or carrying files or materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).?Occasional travel will be required. The salary range for this position is $7,500 - $8,750 monthly. This position will be a part of the Communications Division and reports directly to the Communications Director.
Essential Functions:? The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific functions does not exclude similar work that is related; other duties may be required and assigned by the Executive Director or Deputy Executive Directors.?
· Supervise and oversee the work of a team of 3 Research Analysts
· Develop and implement project plans to meet the research needs of the TNDAGC.
· Develop and manage partnerships with both internal and external stakeholders to facilitate data collection and distribution.
· Review all data collections, written analyses, and final publications for accuracy and efficacy.
· Research statistical data, including data collected by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, the Tennessee Department of Correction, the U. S. Department of Justice, and other applicable law enforcement agencies.
· Research reports, databases, and news outlets with information regarding crime, sentencing, prosecution, and public safety.
· Collect and analyze criminal justice data as it relates to geography and demographics.
· Utilize computer databases, electronic spreadsheets, desktop publishing, and word processing to manipulate, analyze, and present data.??
