TURN COMMUNITY SERVICES: WHO WE ARE Formerly known as Project TURN, we were founded in 1973 by a group of parents who wanted better services for their adult children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Now known as TURN Community Services, we provide resources to more than 850 individuals with developmental disabilities. WHAT YOU DO AS A DAY PROGRAM COORDINATOR This Assistant position is over a day program that specialize in Art, with an emphasis in writing, visual and performance arts. This program supports up to 18 individuals and oversees up to 3 staff members. This center specializes in teaching all forms of art; writing, drawing, singing, dancing, painting, playing various instruments and more, as well as spending a lot of time experiencing adventures outside of their building. The assistant will help the Coordinator to plan and execute specific activities in all of these areas.
The position will assist individuals in the program with personal hygiene, frequent assistance with moving or transfers which includes lifting up to 50 pounds, social skills, communication, safety, recreation and leisure and various other skills to learn independence in their lives.
You're the TURN representative in the community and other professional settings, meaning you're the go-to person for all stakeholders. An exceptional communicator, you enjoy building and maintaining positive relationships. In addition to all of that, you help individuals with disabilities in the art and learning program learn various skills to gain independence in their lives. From learning personal hygiene to social skills, communication to safety, and recreation to leisure, you're there to lend a hand!
WHAT WE NEED FROM OUR DAY PROGRAM COORDINATOR The requirements for this social services position are:
1+ years of work experience with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities (experience with challenging behaviors will be given preference)1+ years of supervisory experience in a work setting, consisting of interviewing and hiring staff, monitoring and evaluating performance, staff training and development, staff discipline, and scheduling An art background and experience with arts in various disciplines. 18+ years of age Personal and reliable transportation Valid driver's license, current motor vehicle insurance, and clean driving record Willingness to drive large program buses and vans, and to train new employees to drive large vehicles The ability to lead art classes. Proficiency in Therapy Do you have knowledge of general medical conditions? How about excellent time management skills?
