Full job description Town of Suffield Job Posting Position: Office Cleaner Post Date: May 7, 2024 End Date: Open Until Filled General Statement of Duties: The Town of Suffield is a quintessential New England town with a longstanding pledge to preserve its historic architecture and agricultural roots. The Town of Suffield seeks an Office Cleaner for our Public Works Department. Performs general cleaning and minor maintenance repair work in the care and upkeep of Town facilities. Serves the residents of Suffield in a customer-oriented manner that helps promote a positive and professional image for the Town government.
Supervision Received: Works under the supervision of the Facilities Manager and the Head Custodian. Supervision may be received from any DPW staff.
Supervision Given: None.
Examples of Essential Functions :
1. Perform basic cleaning and housekeeping duties to maintain high internal standards, sanitation, and appearance of town facilities.
2. Strong attention to detail and striving for results beyond the basic routine.
3. Cleaning and sanitizing all restroom facilities, including toilets, sinks, showers, floors, mirrors, and restocking disposables.
4. Assisting with floor care program, including sweeping, mopping, dry mopping, vacuuming carpets, stripping, and waxing.
5. Facilitate dusting program high and low.
6. Clean all windows inside and out.
7. Empty trash and recycling receptacles and transport them to appropriate dumpster locations.
8. Report damages and supply shortages.
9. Secure all buildings at the end of the shift and throughout the shift.
10. Occasional emergency cleaning during Monday - Friday business hours.
11. Ability to handle other basic maintenance functions such as light bulb changes, furniture moves, and meeting setup and breakdown.
12. Provide outstanding customer service.
13. Must be able to work safely in accordance with Conn-OSHA regulations.
Minimum Qualifications: Education & Experience: 1. A high school diploma or equivalent.
2. Blood Borne Pathogens, Hazard Communication, Safety Data, and Privacy Policy Training will be provided.
3. Relevant experience may be substituted for education attainment if deemed appropriate by the First Selectman.
Knowledge, Skill, and Ability: 1. Knowledge of cleaning materials and methods used in public buildings.
2. Knowledge of maintenance/repair work.
3. Excellent communication and ability to work individually as well as in a team.
4. Must be able to communicate orally or in writing with other workers and supervisor(s).
5. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work cooperatively with co-workers, other departments, and the general public.
6. Working knowledge of occupational hazards of the job and necessary safety precautions.
Special Requirements: 1. A valid, active Motor Vehicle Operator's license is required, with a clean driving record.
2. Must submit to pre-employment drug and alcohol testing and fitness for duty testing.
Tools and Equipment Used: This job operates in a professional office environment with occasionally related fieldwork. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment with a high standard of customer service. The ability to work with a variety of cleaning chemicals is a must. Multiple buildings are tended to, so transportation is a necessity.

Hours: Part-time position, maximum of 19.5 hours per week. The schedule will be determined based on the needs of the town. The general hours are 6:00 am - 9:00 am or 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm, including some weekend work. This position occasionally requires long hours beyond those scheduled hours, including evening and weekend work as job duties demand.
Compensation and Benefits: $17.00 per hour; non-benefit eligible position.
