Internal Notice for Teamster Team Members: This posting will create a non-probationary internal Teamster eligibility list and fill 2 vacancies for this classification. The current vacancy is in the Police department. The internal Teamster eligibility list will be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification, for up to one hundred and eighty (180) days. Non-probationary Teamster team members successfully completing the selection process will be placed on the internal Teamster eligibility list. All other team members including part-time/temporary employees along with external candidates may apply for this recruitment. These individuals may be considered after the appropriate recruitment process of the collective bargaining agreement has been followed. If the vacancy is not filled through promotion by a full-time non-probationary Teamster team members, the next opportunity for placement will be to hire qualified part-time/temporary employees and external candidates.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION Submit a Complete Application – For your application to be considered, you MUST fully complete an online application by providing sufficient information to demonstrate how you meet the minimum and any preferred qualifications, attach any documents as necessary, and answer ALL questions. Select "Apply for Job" at the top of this announcement and click "SUBMIT" at the end of your application. Pay Considerations – The starting hourly pay for this position is $22.49. The selected candidate for this position will start at the beginning of the salary range, no exceptions. Existing employees will receive increases as outlined by their bargaining agreement. Work Schedule – This position is scheduled to work 4 days per week, 9 hours per day, Monday through Thursday, 7:00am to 5:00pm. Environment – The following vacancies are in the current divisions: Corrections, and the Detective Bureau.
Corrections: Employees will be located in the Community Correctional Center and report to the Corrections Captain. Employees will routinely deal with courts, contracted medical vendors, and could potentially be around inmates. In addition the OA may be asked to look-up inmate information using a Jail Management System. *May be around areas that are sensitive in sight and smell, with the possibilities of being in areas where confidential dialog occurs. Detective Bureau: Employees will be located at the Detective Bureau, and assigned to the Investigative Services Command Captain. Will potentially be around investigations that are of a sensitive nature. Confidentiality is crucial in this position, as investigations are ongoing and may be processed through a lengthy time period. Duties also consist of calendaring, answering phones, proofreading, ordering supplies, as well as heavy data entry. THE ROLE Provides technical or specialized office support requiring the regular use of independent judgment and initiative.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED. Minimum of two (2) years of highly responsible office support experience. Continuing education in secretarial science, business or related to job is preferred. Licenses and Certifications Must possess a valid state driver's license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record with the ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driver's license within the required time frame. NCIC Certification must be obtained within six (6) months of hire (Police department positions only) Typing Certificate – 45 net words per minute SELECTION PROCESS 1. Complete online application - Interested candidates MUST submit a completed application through the City's application system. Evaluation of meeting requirements will be made solely on information provided on the application and any required attachments.
2. Typing Test (Pass/Fail)
3. Online Assessment. The test will measure knowledge in basic mathematics, proofreading, filing, organization, time management, scheduling, and budget management. (Weighted 20%, Passing Score 70%)
4. Oral Board Interview (Weighted 80%, Passing Score 70%)
5. Pre-Employment Screening –Background Screening/Investigation Includes an extensive background check, polygraph/CVSA examination, medical/drug screen exam. All top scoring candidates must pass the Background Investigation in order to move forward in the process. Applicants who proceed in the selection process will be required to complete an extensive police background. Among other items, the following are disqualifying behaviors:
Any felony conviction. Any domestic violence conviction. Gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor convictions will be reviewed on a case by case basis. Although there have been recent changes to laws regarding the legal possession and consumption of marijuana, the City of North Las Vegas will continue to adhere to its professional standards and guidelines as it relates to recent and continuous use of the drug. 6. Selection/Offers


Note: Subsequent vacancies during the life of the internal eligibility list may require participation in an additional selection interview. The selection interview will be weighted 100%, requiring a passing score of 70% in order to be considered for the subsequent position vacancy.


The selection process may include any combination of written, performance, and oral assessments to evaluate job-related education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The City reserves the right to modify selection devices and test instruments in accordance with accepted legal, ethical, and professional standards.
