LIBRARY ASSOCIATE (24 hr) Manchester ANNOUNCEMENT NUMBER: 0524-30E Kitsap Regional Library seeks an exceptional, innovative and dynamic Library Associate for the Manchester branch. The ideal candidate is passionate about providing excellent library service and developing strong patron relationships while assisting patrons with research and reader's advisory. This position provides program support and works in collaboration with branch staff and the reference team. Must have knowledge of various computerized devices and applications, research methodologies and library services.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION Under general supervision, provides a variety of reference services to assist patrons in accessing library materials, technology and resources. Assignments vary depending on assignment, and by service-area focus. Duties may include: assisting patrons with internet access and searches and in using library materials; identifying patron needs; performing circulation, clerical and other tasks; assisting in maintaining collections; training staff and/or patrons in utilizing library programs and systems; assisting in the resolution of reference, circulation, patron and staff issues. Work is performed with the ability to exercise independent judgment and decision-making within established policies, procedures and guidelines. This position is represented by the Washington Public Employees Association/UFCW local 365.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree preferred, or a minimum of four years of academic training beyond high school in a field compatible with library service, plus minimum of one year of work experience, related to the duties of the classification. Additional experience related to the duties of the position may substitute for the educational requirement on a year for year basis.

BENEFITS & SALARY Employees regularly scheduled 20 or more hours per week are eligible to participate in our medical, dental, vision, basic life, AD&D, long term disability insurance plans, health reimbursement arrangement (HRA), as well as our employee assistance program. Additionally, all employees regularly scheduled 20 or more hours per week receive 13 paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Full-time employees earn 15 days per year of vacation leave over the course of their first year, 13 days of sick leave, and 1 personal day each year. All accrued time off is pro-rated for part-time employees.
Kitsap Regional Library participates in the Washington State Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). Employees are automatically eligible for the plan if they work a minimum of 16.25 hours per week (or 70 hour per month) during five months per year for two consecutive years.
Compensation range is $24.19-33.48 per hour. Offers to new employees are expected to be between $24.19 and $25.66 depending on required and relevant experience and in alignment with internal equity.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Any of the following duties may be performed. These examples are not necessarily performed by all incumbents, however, and do not include all specific tasks an incumbent may be expected to perform
DUTIES: Courteously respond to patrons in person, by telephone, or electronically using a variety of sources within established guidelines. Assist patrons with reference and reader's advisory services, computer use, the library's public catalog and available digital or electronic resources. Research resource materials to respond to patron needs; refer patrons to a Librarian or other resources, as needed. In the event of facility or patron related incident, follow Library policies, procedures, and guidelines or referring to off-site management staff to resolve problems, concerns, or conflicts. Assist in prioritizing branch tasks to maintain safe and efficient operations. Perform branch opening and closing procedures. Assure that library facility and equipment are in good working order. May support and/or implement a variety of library programs. Assist patrons in resolving concerns or complaints regarding the availability of facilities, adjusting fines and fee disputes and related patron concerns. Assist with collection maintenance activities, as assigned by the Branch Manager. Perform a variety of clerical and administrative functions including counting and preparing money transmittals, collecting, and compiling statistical reports, updating information binders, may assist in tabulating time sheets, tracking training classes, maintaining signage and bulletin boards, and ordering supplies. Assure that library facility and equipment are in good working order. Implement training on circulation, shelving, branch processes, and/or operational tools. May serve as volunteer coordinator; interviewing, scheduling, training, and coordinating Library volunteers, as assigned. Assist patrons or staff with current and emerging library technology, including digital media. Make recommendations to Branch Supervisor and Manager regarding processes which improve branch efficiency and workflow. Serve as resources for community and special population groups. May maintain staff schedules, as assigned. Design and set-up displays, as assigned. Perform other related duties, as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance. Ability to establish positive working relationships, serve the public (e.g., adults, teens, children) courteously and work effectively and collaboratively with library staff. Ability to assist patrons with current and emerging library technology, including digital media. Ability to perform alphanumeric filing accurately and to learn and utilize the Dewey Decimal System. Ability to maintain flexibility in a fast-paced, public facing environment. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a team. Ability to use initiative and independent judgment in a wide variety of situations. Ability to recognize and set priorities, plan, organize and coordinate own work. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to work a schedule that may change periodically, including evenings and weekends. Willingness to being flexible to meet the needs of the library. While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is required to:
(CONTINUOUS) seeing, talking, walking, hearing, standing, bending, grasping, reaching, handling and manual dexterity. (FREQUENT) sitting, kneeling, stooping, crouching, twisting, squatting, keyboarding and repetitive motion of hands/wrists. (OCCASIONAL) climbing, crawling and balancing. Must be able to sort, unpack, lift and maneuver up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally in excess of 50 pounds. Regularly requires the ability to push, pull and maneuver a loaded book cart (20 pounds of push/pull force) on a frequent basis over an extended period of time. SCHEDULE This is a non-exempt, part-time 24 hour per week position. Schedules are subject to change to meet the needs of the library and may include weekends and evenings. The anticipated schedule for this position is Mondays 10:45am - 6:15pm, Tuesdays 9:45am - 6:15pm, Wednesdays 9:00am - 1:15pm, and Saturdays 9:30am - 2:15pm.
