OVERVIEW The agency will place student interns and volunteers at sites/programs where appropriate and deemed mutually beneficial. In conjunction with academic or volunteer organization, the agency will assign students' duties appropriate to their qualifi­cations and assure adequate and proper super­vision. Interns will participate in learning opportunities to gain clinical, professional and general communication skills. Students will have the opportunity to participate in experiential learning in the fields of behavioral health, developmental services, substance use recovery, business administration, finance, and marketing. All student placements are at the discretion of the coordinator. Program needs will always supersede student placement/role if conflict in needs occurs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: All duties and responsibilities are assigned based on scope of memorandum of understandings, student agreements, proper program oversight, and individual readiness. Each volunteer or student intern is responsible for assuring that personal conduct does not jeopardize the working environment and that he/she follows the agency's published rules of conduct and the directions of the immediate supervisor . Maintain and preserve confidentiality and dignity of all members. Gain understanding of all policies and procedures of assigned program and gain basic understanding of what careers in behavioral health look like Performs non-clinical assessments, as outlined by school requirements under supervision of staff and field work coordinator and provides related documentation to staff to be inputted into electronic health records Facilitates and leads groups as well as individual skills training and recovery-based development, prepares related notes, under direct supervision of staff, as applicable and appropriate to training level Prepares requisitions for supplies and materials needed for groups, to be approved by Coordinator Advocates on behalf of individuals served Attends staff meetings Engage in therapeutic communication with individuals served Regularly check in with program coordinator and field work educator weekly to discuss group development and/or concerns Other duties as appropriate KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Basic ability to communicate verbally with people of various educational levels and backgrounds. Knowledge of how to use Microsoft Office Suite and checking email.
TYPICAL EDUCATION, TRAINING AND WORK EXPERIENCE Contingent upon acceptance and enrollment in the Germanna Community College/RACSB Behavioral Health Technician program. CPR/First Aid certification.
