General Maintenance/Equipment Worker-WWTP Position Summary: The DPW General Maintenance Worker/Equipment Operator is expected to perform a variety of skilled maintenance work in a variety of operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of water, sewer, street, and storm drainage infrastructure and other public lands and facilities. Also maintains City grounds, parks, rights-of-way, and buildings. Operates a variety of vehicles, equipment, and tools.
Employees in this classification are assigned to report to the Public Works Department and are "primarily" retained into a sub-department; (1)Streets, Bridge, & Sanitation, (2) Parks, Grounds, & Facilities, and (3) Water & Sewer. Employees may be assigned to other sub-departments upon the needs of the Public Works Department. Reports to DPW foreman, supervisor, or manager. The position can be designated as a lead worker and may direct activities of other full-time, temporary, seasonal, and/or supplementary workers.
Job Duties and Responsibilities: Water, Storm Sewer, and Sanitary Sewer Systems: Repair, construction, maintenance, and inspection of the water distribution, and wastewater/storm collection system tasks in accordance with accepted practices and procedures. Must perform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards. Responds to public works emergencies, including those which occur outside of normal business hours. The aforementioned duties are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position. Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED A valid Michigan Driver's License, including a Commercial Driver's License with a "B" and "N" endorsement. If not in possession at time of job award, must obtain within four (4) months of employment. Front wheel loader/Backhoe certification within (6) six months of job acceptance. Fork lift certificate within (6) six months of job acceptance. Pipeline Assessment & Certification Program Must have and wear protective footwear steel-toed or equivalent per MIOSHA at all times, and all footwear must meet federal ANZIZ41.1 standards. Other pertinent licensing or safety training required by management. PREFFERED JOB REQUIREMENTS Two years of experience relating to construction, maintenance, or repair.
