**Job Overview:**
Join the Department of Pediatrics as a Financial Specialist Senior/Intermediate, where you'll play a pivotal role in providing high-level administrative and post-award financial support for project grant budgets. We're seeking a detail-oriented individual who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about financial planning, analysis, and long-term forecasting.
**Responsibilities:**
- **Financial Analysis and Monitoring:** Assist in analyzing and monitoring accounting, budgeting, and collection/billing activities.
- **Budget Reconciliation:** Reconcile project grant budgets and expenditures, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
- **Vendor Payment Troubleshooting:** Address procurement and vendor payment issues promptly and efficiently.
- **Financial Consultation:** Evaluate financial analyses and provide interpretation to faculty and division administrators, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
- **Compliance Oversight:** Monitor expenditures on grants and contracts to ensure compliance with sponsors' guidelines and Uniform Guidance standards.
- **Effort Planning:** Track faculty and staff effort, minimizing retroactive appointment changes and ensuring accurate Department Budget Earnings.
- **Collaborative Coordination:** Work closely with various departments, divisions, and campus entities to coordinate accounting matters and ensure financial compliance.
- **Mentorship:** Act as a mentor to lower-level financial specialists, providing guidance, leadership, and expertise in workflow management.
**Qualifications:**
*Senior Level:*
- Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance, or equivalent work experience.
- 3-5 years of post-award research administration experience, demonstrating high performance and thorough understanding of job responsibilities.
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability, with flexibility and resilience in managing workload and adapting to change.
- Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills, coupled with the ability to provide excellent customer service.
*Intermediate Level:*
- Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance, or equivalent work experience.
- 2-3 years of post-award research administration experience, showing high performance and comprehensive understanding of job responsibilities.
**Desired Qualifications:**
- Master's degree in business, accounting, finance.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, Business Objects, M-Reports, and M-Pathways.
- Experience managing projects from various sponsors, including NIH, American Heart Association, industry contracts, and clinical trials.
- Familiarity with University procurement policies and post-award research administration.
**Additional Information:**
- **Supervision:** Receive supervision from the Financial Intermediate Manager and/or Division Administrator(s), while working independently and exercising judgement in setting priorities and resolving operational issues.
- **Supervision Exercised:** May provide functional supervision over project grant Administrative Assistants and/or clerical assistants.
- **Background Screening:** Background screening and pre-employment drug testing may be conducted on selected candidates in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
