Job Description The School of Arts and Sciences seeks a 9-month Instructor of Physics and Mathematics to deliver and support high-quality learning for students enrolled in undergraduate science and pre-professional health sciences programs on the Boston campus. Teaching load is four didactic courses per semester or their equivalent. The faculty member will work collaboratively with colleagues to support the mission of the University and the School. • Serves as instructor of undergraduate algebra-based physics lectures and lab sections.
• Uses evidence-based teaching practices including equity-minded teaching strategies and efforts to support diverse learners.
• Provides assignments and assessments that demonstrate real-world applications for MCPHS student populations.
• Works with other physics faculty to coordinate lecture and lab courses and improve students' academic and scientific abilities.
• Uses the University's learning management system to post course resources, assignments, grades and other materials to facilitate student learning.
• Advises and assists students through office hours or scheduled appointments through University-approved mechanisms.
• Has the ability to teach other courses in related disciplines as needed.
• Attends and participates in School and Department meetings, University ceremonies, Admission Open Houses, and other student recruitment events.
• Works effectively with Administrators, Faculty, Lab Coordinators, and Adjunct Faculty to ensure effective delivery of undergraduate physics content.
• Supports incorporation of diversity, equity and inclusion into the curriculum, as well as co-curricular experiences, to broaden the education of students and expand their knowledge of health disparities
• Assumes other duties as assigned by the Dean of Arts & Sciences, Assistant Dean of Arts & Sciences, or other School administrators.
Requirements Required:
• Ph.D. degree in Physics; Masters or ABD, considered.
• Commitment to undergraduate education and student success.
• Experience teaching undergraduate physics courses, with strong emphasis on large classroom engagement and management.
• Demonstrated ability to incorporate evidence-based teaching practices including inclusive pedagogies and active learning .
• Knowledge and application of best practices in teaching diverse learners.
• Ability to effectively use technology tools to support student learning, such as the Blackboard learning management system, audience response systems (clickers), and lecture recording software.
• Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Strong innovative and collaborative skills.
• Ability to use MS Office Suite.
• Ability to work both as a member of a team and as a team leader.
• Ability to work independently and effectively interact with a wide array of parties at all levels (students, faculty, administration, staff, alumni).
Physical Requirements:
• Be physically able to deliver classroom instruction and lab instruction.
