Requirements:

Detailed understanding of semiconductor physics, MOS, and bipolar junction transistor theory of operation, and a detailed transistor-level understanding of a variety of analog and logic circuits. BS EE or equivalent degree required. 5+ years minimum experience in failure analysis is also required. The candidate must excel at multi-tasking, working in a team environment, and have good problem-solving skills. Position involves working with chemicals (acids, solvents) and small samples. Specific responsibilities include:

Perform failure analysis of onsemi integrated circuits - external customer returns, internal qualifications/evaluations failures, and design debug. Wide variety of ICs including complex ASICs, analog, mixed-signal, image sensors, digital logic, filters, and smart discretes. Visit for a complete listing of all products. Failure analysis activities include electrical bench verification and characterization of failures, detailed circuit analysis and die-level node probing, non-destructive analysis (such as X-Ray, acoustic analysis, package inspection), topside and backside decapsulation, layer-by-layer removal using wet and dry etching, and the use of analytical techniques such as photoemission microscopy, OBIRCH, DALS, EOTPR, SEM techniques, die node probing, laser sample prep, laser isolation, circuit analysis and wet/dry delayering. Failure analysis also involves working with CAD/EDA software in cross mapping localization site(s) to layout to schematic. The candidate must be able to efficiently analyze the circuits involved in failure, acquire the needed electrical probe data, and then successfully localize the at-fault site in preparation for physical analysis. Able to successfully test ASIC, analog and mixed signal ICs in a bench set-up using meters, supplies, parameter analyzer, oscilloscopes, and other more sophisticated bench equipment as needed. Bench testing may involve utilizing the Teseda test system, understanding scan and pattern-based testing, ATPG diagnosis, and the complexities involved with looping on a failing pattern. Responsible for generating high-quality Product Analysis Reports that incorporate images and effectively communicate the analysis steps taken during the analysis. The report should clearly explain how the failure mechanism found relates to the product's electrical failing mode. The position also involves completing projects and tasks related to lab development, advancement, and maintenance activities.
