Job Title: State Department Attorney
Location: Columbia SC
Salary: $78,000
Job Purpose:
Under the guidance of the Regional Director, the Attorney will oversee legal matters within assigned counties, encompassing trial and appellate work.
Job Duties:
Negotiate settlements for complex cases with opposing counsel.
Prepare and oversee pleadings for judicial hearings.
Represent out-of-state petitioners in reciprocal support suits and monitor cases.
Conduct trials and attend Court or other judicial hearings.
Assist in coordinating interdepartmental activities at the county level.
Handle appeals stemming from cases.
Deliver excellent customer service to clients, the public, and colleagues.
Ensure proper use and safeguarding of Personal Identifying Information (PII).
Perform related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements:
Juris Doctor degree or equivalent from an accredited law school.
Experience as a practicing attorney.
Must be a member of the South Carolina Bar.
Necessary Special Requirement:
Must possess a valid driver's license and obtain commission as a Notary Public within 3 months after hire date.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed:
Effective planning and organizational skills.
Strong communication skills.
Courteous and effective public interaction.
Judicious application of policies and procedures.
