Job Description:Summary:Barr is seeking a senior-level water and wastewater engineer to join one of its offices. This person will undertake challenging and progressive work focused on water and wastewater supply and distribution systems, collection, reuse, and treatment facilities for both industrial and municipal clients. This candidate may also have a role in day-to-day client service and business development. Project responsibilities may include working as an individual or leading project teams to assist our clients with evaluation, planning, and implementation of water, wastewater, and reuse system operations to address current and future goals including:Treatment technology evaluations that may include data analysis, mass balance calculations, modeling, bench testing, and pilot testingExisting system operation, troubleshooting, and process improvement evaluationsLong-range planning assistance, including evaluation of current operating systems and forecasting of future capital and operating expensesDevelopment of conceptual and detailed engineering including plans and specifications for constructionAssistance with construction, start-up, troubleshooting, and operation of new systemsPreparation of technical reportsTypical business-development activities will include building and maintaining client relationships, tracking marketing leads and project opportunities, developing proposals and presentations, networking, participating in industry associations, and sharing Barr's capabilities with existing and potential clients. Additionally, the selected candidate may lead client and regulatory negotiations and mentor junior staff. This job may require occasional out-of-town travel.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering or a related fieldRegistered Professional Engineer (PE) in Minnesota, with the ability to become licensed in other states as needed10 or more years of relevant work experienceStrong technical skills related to water and wastewater engineeringExperience with preparing and managing the preparation of engineering plans and specifications, equipment selection, and cost estimatingExposure to treatment plant operationsStrong technical and problem-solving skills and attention to detailStrong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members, regulators, and clientsDemonstrated effectiveness in building working relationships and leading and working with multidisciplinary teamsDemonstrated project management skillsWillingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needsValid driver's license and acceptable driving recordLegal authorization to work in the U.S. without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the futurePreferred Qualifications:Advanced degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineeringExposure to work in a laboratory setting including bench scale testing and wastewater analysisEngineering knowledge and experience with industrial processes such as manufacturing, petroleum refining, and mining.Sound understanding of applied aquatic chemistry and environmental microbiologyA hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Ann Arbor or Grand Rapids, Michigan; Duluth, Hibbing, or Minneapolis, Minnesota; Jefferson City, Missouri; Salt Lake City, Utah; or Bismarck, North Dakota, offices.NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided.
