PURPOSE OF POSITION:
To assist the Chair of Pediatrics in the pursuit of the clinical mission of the Department of Pediatrics, in alignment with the research and educational components of our tri-partite mission to Heal, Educate, and Discover. The Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs (VC-CA) will partner and collaborate with institutional strategic and operational leaders to ensure consistent and standard clinical practices across the department and sites of care to achieve excellent and equitable outcomes for all children, to ensure safety, and to foster patient and family experience. The VC-CA will have oversight of all delineation of privileges for clinical activities across all sites and will be involved in regional strategic planning activities for the Department.
Responsibilities include (and are not limited to):
Pursue excellence in the delivery of clinical care
The VC-CA will work to inspire faculty and support innovation to improve clinical care. The VC-CA will
work with Division Chiefs to create an environment that is ideal for fostering collaborative clinical care,
science, and innovation.
Main responsibilities include (and are not limited to):
• Oversee the delivery of best practice or evidence-based diagnostic and treatment protocols to all
children and promote team-based care delivery models.
• Develop and achieve metrics for optimal access to care, standardization of template, and template and
space utilization.
• Develop and improve processes to improve all aspects of clinical practice within the Department, and
partner with clinical leadership of Children's Health to integrate operations to ensure efficiency in the
delivery of safe care.
• Oversee faculty productivity and collaborative practice agreements with Advanced Practice Providers.
Recruit, mentor, promote, and retain talented clinical faculty
The VC-CA will play a key role in the development of an outstanding clinical faculty body to pursue the
clinical mission of the Department. Main responsibilities include:
• Develop lean processes for clinical onboarding of new faculty and ensure that the combined clinical
effort allocated to faculty meets the clinical demand across service lines.
• Support Chiefs and Department Administrator in Division reviews of clinical performance.
• Ensure standards of professionalism and integrity are maintained by faculty and Department team members.
Support the development of growth or destination programs
The VC-CA will collaborate with the Department Administrator and/or his designee and strategic leaders of the JPE and Children's Health to develop proposals for expansion of (sub)specialty programs. The development will be based on objective assessment of the growth opportunity, type of investment, short term deliverables, and long-term sustainability. Support and integrate translational and clinical research into clinical programs. The VC-CA will collaborate with VC for Research, research leaders, Division Chiefs, and institutional leaders to facilitate implementation of observational and interventional clinical studies to pursue equitable health outcomes and translational research programs toward pathbreaking innovation. These collaborative efforts will offer preventative, diagnostic, and therapeutic options for patients seen at Children's Health units and affiliated hospitals.
Personal qualities, professional qualifications, and experience:
• Ability to develop a collaborative vision, with a track record of successful implementation of new
initiatives that meet the challenges of clinical care and academic practice.
• Substantial leadership and management experience with health care strategies, lean processes,
financial budgeting, and resource management.
• A strong team orientation along with a track record of working cooperatively and collegially within a
diverse and complex environment.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills to build and maintain trust and relationships
with faculty, staff, administration, trainees, and all other stakeholders.
• An entrepreneurial spirit and drive and the willingness to take risks and advocate for new ideas
coupled with a commitment to measurement and accountability.
• Adheres to and enforces the Department's core values of truth, honesty, respect, inclusion, and
teamwork, with high ethical behavior in decisions and actions.

Candidates must be eligible for medical licensure in the state of Texas. Academic rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience. Consideration may be given to applicants seeking less than a full-time status.
