Position Summary

The Thompson Learning Community (TLC) is designed to promote the academic success of UNO students receiving the Susan T. Buffett Scholarship. TLC provides William H. Thompson Scholars a sequence of common courses, academic enhancement activities, academic and personal advisement, and opportunities to connect with faculty, staff, and peers to create an inclusive, welcoming environment.

The TLC Office is a dynamic area with a great deal of student interaction. The TLC Specialist will serve as an academic and personal resource to William H. Thompson Scholars at UNO focused on helping scholars master concepts/skills necessary to successfully complete university requirements.

Specialists in TLC enhance the academic and personal development of students by advising primarily first- and second-year students, however, Specialists also provide support to any William H. Thompson Scholar (and may support non-WHT Scholars through indirect and direct engagement with students and campus offices) in need of assistance navigating academic/administrative and personal obstacles to college completion.

The Specialists' day-to-day duties will include teaching college-ready courses and career/professionalism, overseeing programmatic aspects of the first-, and second-year experience, and supporting any students who request support.
