Position Overview This position is for a Temp Casual Research Assistant (temp-RA) in the laboratory of Skeletal Muscle Plasticity and Regeneration Laboratory (SMPRL) in the School of Kinesiology, College of Education and Human Development. The temp-RA will work in a team setting to aid in the coordination and conduction of currently federally funded studies related to the pathophysiology of traumatic injury, particularly at the level of the skeletal muscle. The candidate will be responsible for experimental procedures and study administration, data reports, and collaboration with other team members. The candidate highly motivated, well-trained and should be comfortable working within an interdisciplinary group of personnel with different levels of experience (undergraduate students through senior faculty), and possess excellent organization, oral, and written communication skills. The technician will work under the direction of the Dr. Sarah Greising, for more information about the laboratory, please see .  Job Responsibilities Study Administration (85%)
Conduct physiological, histological, and biochemical experiments on rodent skeletal muscle:  Perform protein analyses  Perform histological analyses  Perform imaging of muscle samples Perform enzymatic assays on muscle tissue and blood from rodents Perform strength analyses on conscious and anesthetized rodents  Assist with mouse procedures: Analyze cage activities of rodents Record food and water intake  Assist with surgeries, sacrifices and dissections on rodents  Maintain a detailed daily scientific journal of activities
Laboratory Administration (15%)
Supervise the maintenance of databases pertinent to appropriate research studies Analyze and manage research data  Prepare buffers and muscle samples  Wash and autoclave glassware and surgical instruments as well as routine upkeep of laboratory instrumentation
Required Qualifications BS degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Physiology, or natural science related discipline 1-2 years of related experience with laboratory work experience Experience conducting laboratory experiments independently  Previous work in the assessment of skeletal muscle function (e.g., using biopsied muscle fibers or in vivo analysis) Previous work experience with various immunohistochemically analysis tools  Previous work experience with enzymatic assays Excellent oral and written communication skills Excellent organization skills Experience with detailed documentation, data analysis, and common computer applications  Interpersonal skills necessary to communication effectively with team members and project collaborators Ability to collaborate effectively with people from a variety of communities, backgrounds, and identities Preferred Qualifications Ability to work independently Strong orientation to detail and strong organizational skills Experience analyzing skeletal muscle and adipose tissue histologically Experience as research assistant About University of Minnesota Twin Cities
