Job Description:The Consortium on Trust in Media and Technology (CTMT) in the College of Journalism and Communications is seeking a skilled and motivated Computer Science student to join our project for the summer. The project aims to explore how language affects public perception and trust in journalism. This position focuses on maintaining and supporting the backend of an innovative tool while it undergoes testing in newsrooms. The ideal candidate will possess strong skills in computer science, with a focus on coding, AI, particularly in natural language processing (NLP) This role is critical for ensuring the tool's operational stability and efficiency throughout the testing period.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintain and troubleshoot the backend of a language analysis tool, ensuring its smooth operation during testing phases in newsrooms.Implement updates and patches as needed, maintaining the tool's integrity and performance.Collaborate with project stakeholders to gather feedback and address technical concerns.Provide technical support and maintenance for software tools related to Large Language Models (LLM)/AI, including but not limited to Python development environments and the BERT model.Document all technical work and changes to the tool for future reference and continuity. Expected Salary:$17 per hour

Minimum Requirements:Currently enrolled Computer Science student eligible for on-campus employment through student Other Personnel Services (OPS) with a minimum 2.5 GPA. (?)Available to work part-time, up to 20 hours per week, during the Summer term. Preferred Qualifications:Demonstrated experience working with Large Language Models (LLMs) such as BERT, GPT, or similar, especially in applications related to natural language processing (NLP) and sentiment analysis.Experience or strong interest in linguistics, computational linguistics is a plus.Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently.Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills, capable of prioritizing tasks to meet project deadlines.Proficiency in Python, especially with libraries and frameworks relevant to NLP and sentiment analysis (SpaCy, PyTorch, etc.) Special Instructions to Applicants:In order to be considered, you must upload your cover letter and resume.
