Department Description POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Director of Building Services, the Shops Coordinator- Maintenance will assist with coordinating and supervising the staff responsible for implementing repairs and maintaining Boilers, Building Automation, HVAC, Insulation, Plumbing, Pump Repair, Refrigeration. Steam Fitting and Water Treatment. The incumbent will also oversee facility management, maintenance and construction/renovation work, including prioritizing and administering the completion of work orders for over 200 school facilities and administering contracted services. The work is reviewed by the Director of Building Services for results obtained in meeting the goals and objectives of the Division.

Salary Range: $51,545 - $92,895

Detailed Description DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Oversees, plans, schedules, assigns and supervises work performed by Master Foremen and crew members; Administers and supervises the design and implementation of major projects both state and federally funded projects assigned to Maintenance; Administers contracted services; reviews plans and specifications; evaluates work performed and oversees service providers; Inspects school system facilities to evaluate the physical condition of buildings, Equipment Initiates work orders, including budget codes, cost estimates of labor and material, and determines scheduled dates for repair, renovations, and relocations; Meets with officials in charge of school facilities to determine priorities of action required for repairs, renovations, relocations, and opening of new school buildings; Prioritizes and designates assignments of work to the planners, draftsman, and technical staff; Confers with supervisory personnel to coordinate work activities; Performs administrative and supervisory duties requiring effective verbal, written and computer communication skills; Coordinates in-house services, budget allocations, supervises large projects and follows up on various repairs and installations with on-site inspections; Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies; Develops and implements standard operating procedures and status reports, as required; and Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements QUALIFICATIONS
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.
Thorough knowledge of construction methods, utilities, building equipment fabrication, regulation and maintenance; Minimum of five (5) years' field supervision experience within a maintenance trade including three (3) years' management of budget, payroll, contracted services; Experience developing preventive maintenance programs, and bid packages including scopes of work for contracted services; Ability to plan, implement and evaluate; Must be skilled at managing personnel, financial, and administrative activities; and developing effective work standards and schedules; Possess the ability to initiate correspondence and to prepare professional reports; Ability to administer the policy and procedures of the negotiated contract; Skilled in human relations, communication, and effective decision-making abilities; and Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator's License with a driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points, of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from High School required; bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, construction management, business administration or a related field preferred. A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years' work experience in technical, plant management, engineering, maintenance or construction; and a minimum of five (5) years' field supervision experience within a maintenance trade including three (3) years'
management of budget, payroll, contracted services. CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
None required. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversees, plans, schedules, assigns and supervises work performed by Master Foremen, Engineer, Planner, Lead and crew members. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs. WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Employees are considered emergency personnel and therefore are expected to have residential telephone service and possession of a valid driver's license. Deemed as essential personnel; may be required to work day, night or weekend.
