This is a temporary summer school teaching position at Hopkins High School, creating a classroom environment in which fosters learning and personal growth; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide an excellent education, in accordance with each students' ability; to establish effective rapport with students, parents; and to work collaboratively with other staff members.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Develops lesson plans and instructional materials; and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student. Teaches district-approved curriculum. Translates lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere. Evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and in a timely fashion prepares progress reports. Communicates this information regularly with parents. Identifies student needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans. Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the student. Maintains a professional day, as defined by building/and contract. Communicates regularly with parents outside normal classroom day by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, e-mails, etc. Works in a supportive and collaborative manner with colleagues and supervisors. Participates in a personal professional goal-setting process on a regular basis. Knowledge of instructional design for students with educational needs in reading and writing, including the Qualifications : 9-12 Science licensure required. Candidates will demonstrate the following: prior experience, interest, and skill in working effectively with secondary school students; desire and ability to work cooperatively with other department members; a positive attitude and strong human relations skills; excellent classroom management skills; ability to adapt instruction to various learning levels and styles; openness and availability to students; teaching effectiveness. Commitment to working effectively with students and families from diverse cultural, ability, and economic backgrounds; demonstrated preparation, skill, and commitment to providing for the individual learning needs of all students; ability to create positive, inclusive learning environments for all students; skill in using positive, constructive disciplinary approaches; ability to organize and plan for student learning. Familiarity with current teaching/learning theories; skill in establishing and maintaining positive relationships; diversity of interests and experience; ability to work with secondary school students. Compensation and Schedule: 4.5 hours daily, 4 days per week, 20 days total. Salary per the HEA Contract.
